And I don't think this is a good reason to go back to the MWC, as some people do. Notre Dame sure doesn't seem to be losing any recruits over not playing for a title. The key to recruiting is winning. I guarantee we will out recruit Utah when they are struggling to be bowl eligible and we are winning 10+ games a season.
    Two problems with this:

    1. We are not Notre Dame
    2. Notre Dame just played in the last BCS title game

    Back to the drawing board.

I'm glad that we agree that you're stuck in 2010, and will not be able to evaluate the current landscape of college football.

Classic straw man response. Of course we aren't Notre Dame. No one ever suggested we were Notre Dame. The question is whether playing for a conference title has a significant impact on recruiting. The evidence shows that it has zero impact on the only other independent team comparable to BYU in tradition and accomplishment. I am still waiting for any evidence to the contrary. Show me one recruit that decided to to the MWC in order to play for a conference title (rather than for honor code or other reasons) and I will concede the point.

Shaka, just my 2 cents: don't divulge your conversations with anyone who considers independence an article of faith. They will not be swayed by things like evidence.

Why? Because it is longer? It certainly doesn't add anything more than what you already wrote.

This is not true. BYU gains lots of things from being in the mwc. You just don't think that they are important.

The quote function is a bitch. You brought up ND, and when we call out your apples to oranges comparison, it's us throwing out straw men? I haven't seen anyone make an argument that a good recruit chose BYU because we were in the MWC, and to suggest otherwise is, well, a straw man!

Who has ears, let them hear!

Like what? I will give you that it makes it easier to schedule a bunch of mediocre teams.

Really? You are going to make me list these again?

I'm not going to fight with you over what a straw man is. I do find it interesting, however, that rather than actually coming up with some evidence you decide to change the subject.

Good point, now we have to give some of them 2 for 1s.

I'm not making you do anything. If you don't think you have a list that would persuade anyone that you are right, you don't have to post it.

Arguing about the argument = sure sign you're losing the argument.
