  • Texas offers Charlie Strong:

Strong, though, told Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich on Friday night he has not accepted the job, Jurich told ESPN's Brett McMurphy. Strong wants to talk to Jurich and Louisville president James Ramsey on Saturday, another source told McMurphy.
LOL, talk to them about what? 0% chance he doesn't take this if really offered.

not sure how big the gap is for the sec but it is still big enough.
The gap is still big in perception, but I don't think its as big on the field. That being said I think Auburn beats Florida State.

I think it is a great hire. Funny reading over at Bevo, there is a large segment that are down because they didn't get Harbaugh or Saben.

Meh. You are exaggerating. Most seem fine with it.

I am totally fine with that hire.

Then the NFL still has that perception because the SEC is still putting more players in the NFL than any other conference. Especially 1st and 2nd rounders.

I am not sure bowl games are true indicators that the rest of college football has caught up to the SEC. When teams have 30 days to prepare and nothing is on the line, that isn't a true indication of the best team. Where would Oklahoma, Nebraska and even Florida St. be right now had they played the conference schedule that the SEC has to play? Nobody really knows.

            • And when it comes to sports, it always brings a big smile to my face watching Urban lose. Love that he finished the season 0-2. Thank you Tajh Boyd and Sammy Watkins. Sammy Watkins is going to be fun to watch in the NFL.

The SEC was down a few notches from its best this season. Still a great league, but the defenses in particular were weaker than they have been. I think (hope) FSU is going to pummel Auburn, because they are one dimensional.

I totally agree with this. In terms of the SEC dominance, they weren't what they were the past few years. That being said, I still think there is a big gap talent wise and strength of conference top to bottom between the SEC and the next best conference.

I don't disagree with anything you say here. My point is that the SEC fans perception of their dominance is not as grand as they think. And I say this as a BYU fan where fan perception is a bit skewed as well.

not just that, but the perception of the SEC isn't necessarily that every team is miles better than the best teams from other conferences. The perception is that from top to bottom, the SEC is a stronger conference than every other conference. That is why the SEC is almost always referred to as a collective. I dont see much evidence to ultimately dispel the notion as a conference, although the PAC definitely gave chase this season and made a strong case. The SEC is going for an 8th straight national championship. This isn't really the best time to be making the case that the SEC isnt as good as advertised. It is as good as advertised and clearly the best conference in college football. I dont know how to measure "gaps" between programs except for championships.

I still dont understand this. During the early BCS era (with the exception of the Tennessee win..go Vols!) the SEC wasn't enjoying the reputation it now has. But over the past 7 or 8 seasons, it has dominated. What are you trying to say because it isn't coming across very clearly. How are you measuring "the SEC fans perception of their dominance?" If a conference wins 7 straight national championships and one of those title games featured two teams from the conference, what else are the fans supposed to think??

                              • Houston had 22 yards of offense in the first half.

They just had 309 yards of offense in the 3rd quarter.
