College football deserves whatever bad games they get when they invite bad teams like NIU or Fresno State to BCS games. Neither of those teams has been significantly tested, and Oklahoma State or whoever they play will boat race them in the Fiesta. It'll be like Hawaii 2007.

I think Fresno is better than NIU. I'm sure if the BCS committee could work it out they would pair Fresno/NIU and UCF.

And didn't score until the game was over in the 4th. Mannion was dreadful.

I sense that the gap is closing between the top non-BCS teams and many good BCS teams. Although those top non-BCS teams do not face the quality competition that most BCS conferences teams play against, they are capable of beating BCS conference champions if they are healthy and have several weeks to prepare. For Hawaii 2007, there's also Utah 2008 and Boise St. 2006. Nebraska played Fresno St. in Lincoln in 2011 and Fresno St. was very respectable.

This is what happens when the AQ conferences give to the non-AQ conferences, you get lesser teams making it. There have absolutely been deserving teams in the BCS. Utah - 2004, Boise St - 2006, Utah - 2008, and Boise St./TCU in 2009. However, the current system opened it up too much and the NIUs are the consequence.

Sorry chief you already said Utah wasn't deserving and didn't belong in the BCS.

TCU beat Wisconsin in the 2011 Rose Bowl. That team was good.

2004 Utah was deserving. There was enough NFL talent and insanely talented coaching staff (Meyer, Whittingham, Gary Anderson, Dan Mullen, Mike Sanford) to make a very strong case for this team.

2008 is debateable and it is 100% certain that put them in a AQ conference they are not undefeated. Same goes for 2006 - Boise St. I was trying to be nice in including those 2.

Are you conjecturing that a 2004 Utah team would have been undefeated in the Pac?

Loss to USC, but still good enough to make a BCS game. I also give Utah a chance against USC because of the coaching staff.

                          Coaches don't tackle.

That Utah team had some pretty good talent on it including an NFL starter at QB. Whittingham/Anderson are a great team to scheme to stop the USC offense. Meyer is one of the best offensive minds in the game and in his best years as a coach. Throw in great assistants to work with in Mullen and Gonzales and I give the Utes a fighting chance in that game.

You may already be aware of this but that USC team had a few players go to the NFL as well. it also had a heisman trophy winner. And a pretty good coaching staff. And was the defending national champion. And was also undefeated playing a much more difficult schedule.

Clearly he wasn't aware if he thinks Utah would have any chance against USC that year.
