There will be many nervous Auburn fans Monday night as they watch their Tigers take on Florida State in the VIZIO BCS National Championship, but Mark Skiba is an odds-on favorite to be among the most skittish.

If Auburn wins tonight, this Tiger fan's $100 betting slip will be worth $50,100.
That's because Skiba's $100 bet has turned into a possible $50,000 payday -- if the Tigers win the title.

While the SEC has been the best BCS conference for the past few years, I think it's important to point out that often the top SEC schools don't schedule each other. I first became aware of this during the late 1970s and early 1980s when first Alabama was playing for national championships and then Georgia. The two schools didn't play each other while in other top conferences, namely the Big 8 and Big 10, Nebraska-Oklahoma and Ohio St.-Michigan were knocking each other out of the NC picture. Why didn't the top teams in the SEC at that time (Alabama and Georgia) play?

While Alabama does play Tennessee every year, the Crimson Tide have scheduled Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina (usually the top teams in the SEC East) four times each over the past 12 years. And 2103 was no different for Alabama: they didn't play Georgia, South Carolina, Missouri (or Florida). Meanwhile Oklahoma plays every team in the Big 12 and played each team in the other division 6 times over a 12 year period when there were two divisions.

With Alabama not having several ranked SEC teams on their 2013 schedule (Missouri, SC, Georgia), I see little difference between Alabama's SEC schedule and Oklahoma's Big 12 schedule. Both teams played 5 bowl teams on their conference schedule:
Alabama: Texas A&M (9-4), Ole Miss (8-5), LSU (10-3), Miss St. (7-6), Auburn (12-1)
Oklahoma: Texas (8-5), Texas Tech (8-5), Kansas St. (8-5), OK St. (10-3), Baylor (11-2)
