Haha. The 32 team playoff is what is unique. I put (way too much) some time drawing up the whole thing, I had like 15 page Word doc addressing all the common arguments. I tried to publicize it a little bit, emailing AD's and media people, etc. This is what an Excel guru does from 9-5 after he automates his job.

I see this as just temporary anyway as they will keep expanding it. To 8, then 16, then the Santos 32 team playoff system which I have been pimping since the late 90's.

I remember he was once hyping up that he had beach balls with the CF16 logo and url that he was going to pass out at football games to get them on TV. Because you know the one thing they always show on TV broadcasts is close ups of the beach balls in the crowd.

Honest question, how do you go about hedging something like that. $250 on Auburn at 1000/1 is $250k. To hedge it down the middle, with FSU at -290, you'd have to come up with $362,500 to put on the the money line.

This is doable for HFN and a few others here, but not for most of us.

#1 FSU vs #4 Michigan State
#2 Auburn vs #3 Alabama

What do you think? Fair to Auburn to have to beat Bama again?

Your question makes me wonder, would a casino be willing to buy out the ticket at this point? Would they pay something like $100K now so they wouldn't have to pay $250K if Auburn wins?

If you don't have the money to hedge then you don't have the money to leave $250K on the line. You have to find a front.

Scrap together what you have. Doesn't have to be a perfect, mathematically neutral hedge.

btw, you can take out as much as you want against a 401K as a loan, then put it back within 60 days, and it does not count as a loan and will not go against your taxes.

A coach really shouldn't advocate for the position that benefits his team the most.

I played for Craig Bohl in HS and he is a good man. I think Bohl accomplished all that he could at ND St. and was ready for a new challenge. Who knows? If he has success at Wyoming, maybe he could wind up back home in Nebraska. The last time Nebraska plucked a HC from Wyoming, it worked out OK for the Huskers - Bob Devaney.

What was the name of the coach from Montana (or was it Montana State) that was perennially successful in FCS but only lasted a few seasons at Wyoming? Is there any reason to think that this coach will be any different? Is there any reason to think that Wyoming will ever be able to overcome the built-in limitations to their program of demographics and geography? Even if the coach is able to overcome those limitations for a season or two, the limitations will win out in the end as the coach eventually leaves for greener pastures (e.g. Joe Tiller).

Utah State has the exact same limitations as Wyo although the demographics have been improving for Utah State over the past few years with 27K enrollment compared to 12K for Wyo. Neither school can do anything about their geography.
