Could you independently come up with enough capital to legitimately hedge a $250 bet at 1000/1 odds? I'm sure there are people/bookies out there who will front something like that, but they'll want a taste of the winnings.Originally posted by scottie View PostWould you hedge?Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

I think if you only do four, you have to make it a requirement that you win your conference.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostIf this were next year the 4 team playoff would be:
#1 FSU vs #4 Michigan State
#2 Auburn vs #3 Alabama
What do you think? Fair to Auburn to have to beat Bama again?

Yes, and Alabama would probably beat them by a couple touchdowns at a neutral site. Alabama could have won that game against Auburn about five different times and I'm amazed that Auburn was able to hang around. Bama wouldn't make that mistake again. That miracle play at the end of the game notwithstanding, I'm still pretty sure that Alabama is the second best team in the country. I would love to have seen Alabama vs. Florida State. I think Florida State is the best non-SEC team since the 2005 Texas and USC teams. These dipshits at the bowls should have done the four team playoff years ago.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostIf this were next year the 4 team playoff would be:

What do you think? Fair to Auburn to have to beat Bama again?Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

the SEC wont agree to that, as evidenced by this years results, and pretty much most years in the past decade, I would guess. Also, what to do with Notre Dame (and BYU!)?Originally posted by jay santos View PostI think if you only do four, you have to make it a requirement that you win your conference.
I do think the SEC will mandate conference championship games, which means expansion time for the B12 :rockon2:Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

I see this as just temporary anyway as they will keep expanding it. To 8, then 16, then the Santos 32 team playoff system which I have been pimping since the late 90's.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View Postthe SEC wont agree to that, as evidenced by this years results, and pretty much most years in the past decade, I would guess. Even if one conference has the two best teams? I don't get this argument especially in light of what happened to Alabama in that Auburn game. Alabama lost in just about the flukiest way possible in an extremely hostile road game against a very good team. If Alabama plays Auburn ten times at a neutral site, how many does Alabama win? 7 or 8? Under the current system (which ends this year), I can understand why Auburn is going over Alabama -- they played once and Auburn won. No do-overs.Originally posted by jay santos View PostI think if you only do four, you have to make it a requirement that you win your conference.
But with a four team playoff, you want the four best teams, period. Who do you include over Alabama? Stanford who lost twice? Baylor?Part of it is based on academic grounds. Absolutely fair. If the system is based off of seeding, no reason to penalize the two other teams to avoid a re-match.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostIf this were next year the 4 team playoff would be:

Wow, late 90s? You certainly were a visionary. Who would have thought that a playoff in college football would be a cool idea?Originally posted by jay santos View PostI see this as just temporary anyway as they will keep expanding it. While it may be fair, who wants to see a re-match in the semis? MLB used to have a provision where the wild card team didn't play the division champ in the first round. If its down to four teams, why not avoid a re-match? I don't see it as a penalty to have to play Alabama, who is probably the best team in the country, in the semis to avaoid a re-match. If a team is going to lay claim to a national championship, it needs to be capable of beating the best team rather than hoping for another team to do it.Originally posted by USUC View PostAbsolutely fair.
