Bad timing for BYU that he is taking the visit on the 17th. That is the mega weekend for SC. Mama will be there, as well as SC verbals JuJu Smith and Viane Talamaivao. Adoree Jackson is allegedly taking a local visit that weekend, as well. That's a lot of star power. I didn't know Warner was on SCs radar though. They are almost at their limit.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Uriah Leitaua found out this weekend he was admitted to Stanford. Could be another big blow for BYU.

In the past BYU usually has the big recruiting weekend the first or second week of January. These kids take several other trips after and we lose them at the last minute. This year BYU gets the final crack at them. January 31st they will all trip to BYU and the coaches will get the chance to make the final impression. As soon as they leave Saturday night, the dead period begins until signing day.Originally posted by The_Douger View PostSounds like this could all go up in smoke real quick.*Banned*

I think that's a sound strategy.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostIn the past BYU usually has the big recruiting weekend the first or second week of January. With our limited scholarships, we need to hit on all these kids. Sometimes I worry that independence isn't all that exciting as a conference schedule to kids, but looking at our exposure and how often we're on TV has to be a big selling point to kids as well. Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

There have been rumors about this kid being interested in BYU for a while. Glad to see he's making a visit.Sounds like JUCO WR Devon Blackmon (IIRC, Jamaal Williams' HS teammate) has visit planned with BYU for the 24th.
Blackmon can ball. Went to Oregon out of high school. Transferred to JC after freshman season. Has 2 years to play 2. 4* according to Scout. So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

To say the position is one in need would be an understatement. Not to metion that I like the sound of "The Devonick Duo" running routes.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostThere have been rumors about this kid being interested in BYU for a while. Blackmon would be a huge pickup for BYU. He had offers from everyone coming out of HS (Bama, Florida, Texas, Oregon, SC). Most projected him as a WR in college but several schools (Utah included) offered him as a QB.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostThere have been rumors about this kid being interested in BYU for a while. I am not sure what the chances are we land him. But having Baby J here will definitely help.*Banned*

If he has a good career at Stanford this will go down as a big miss on a kid who wanted to come to BYU.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostUriah Leitaua cancels BYU trip and commits to Stanford.

I also hate the idea of Sark recruiting against BYU for USC.

I'm still going to hope for the longshot that Mama goes Jimmer and comes straight to BYU. The team needs him next year.As someone who only marginally follows BYU recruiting, I always thought BYU had an advantage with LDS recruits who wanted to serve a mission. Many major programs would either not allow it or highly discourage it. Perhaps I'm wrong with that assessment. Was there a track record of LDS players attending schools other than BYU, Utah or Utah St., serving a mission, and then resume playing football?Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostOr the fact that Riley Nelson screwed all future missionaries and X tried transferring but was told he would have to sit out a year.
And how does the 18-year old missionary change this dynamic? I would think many programs would be hesitant to sign an LDS player knowing he wouldn't be on campus for two more years and be out of football during that time. So I think BYU would have an advantage in this scenario.
Agree with Vic Vega that the mission field can cause one to re-assess one's life and priorities; it did for me. My MP recruited me to attend BYU towards the end of my mission and I decided to transfer to BYU. Earlier in my mission, the MP inquired why I was "recruiting" a BYU football player to Nebraska during a split when all I did was answer his many questions about Nebraska football.Last edited by Paperback Writer; 01-14-2014, 10:15 AM.“Not the victory but the action.
