No doubt, though maybe if you hadn't forgotten so much you'd be an M.D.Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss
There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

There is a big difference between affiliated and being an employee of health system.Originally posted by doctorcoug View PostSeriously? 1/3 of physicians will be in private practice next year. That is a majority.
Also, I'm a board certified physician, FYI.

You are right, if I had been smarter I would have relocated out of utah and moved to Texas, then applied. That would have made a difference.Originally posted by Donuthole View PostNo doubt, though maybe if you hadn't forgotten so much you'd be an M.D.
But, then again, maybe I wasn't so stupid after all, seeing that I scored higher than 90 percent of all physicians on my "MD" specialty boards that took them this year.
It is nice to see you agree with me that I've forgotten more than you'll ever learn.

Read it again. They are employed. Straw poll, how many doctors on here get a paycheck from a hospital unrelated to EMTALA call? I bet it is north of 75%.Originally posted by Mormon Red Death View PostThere is a big difference between affiliated and being an employee of health system.

He was smart. He became a nurse and probably ended up becoming a CRNA, making more than many physicians while managing the ABCs of medicine, airway book and chair.Originally posted by Coach McGuirk View PostGaylord Focker outscored you?

No you need to read it again. It mentioned the 1/3 as TRULY independent. As I said before. Here is what I'm seeing in family medicine:Originally posted by Mormon Red Death View PostNo you need to read it again. It mentioned the 1/3 as TRULY independent. As I said before. There is a difference between affiliated and directly employed
According to AAFP data, more than 60 percent of AAFP members are employed physicians, and more than 80 percent of new physicians -- those who completed residency within the past seven years -- are employed. Thirty years ago, employed physicians were a minority in family medicine, but a slow shift to the employed model during the past two decades has eroded our collective scope of practice.
I read about my specialty and this is a hot topic. The main reason is that because reimbursements for FM have stagnated for so long while other procedure specialties have grown, so hospitals view FM as a loss leader. They lose money on the clinic to make money on the ancillaries. In fact, studies show that per dollar of salary, FM physicians are the most valuable physicians for a hospital second only to neurosurgeons. PPACA is only going to make the worse (the bleeding of private practice). However, with new government initiatives that look to increase FM pay by about 15-40 per medicare patient per month looks to possibly turn this around.
In my specialty, maybe I should have said, most physicians are employed..."Don't expect I'll see you 'till after the race"

Rumors that the Big 10 will add Virginia next week, and possible GT or UNC.
SEC maybe making moves too.Multiple sources within the Big 10 contend the University of Virginia is set to receive an invitation to join the conference early next week. UVA is expected to ratify the move from the ACC to the Big 10 shortly after receiving the invitation.
UVA would become the 15th member of the Big 10.
None of the Big 10 sources would divulge the identity of the Big 10’s target for #16 but they did confirm that Georgia Tech and UNC are the leading candidates.
Media contacts working close to Georgia Tech believe the Yellow Jackets are the Big 10’s choice for #16 while several sources within the Big 10 believe the conference would prefer UNC over GT.
http://www.eersauthority.com/big-10-...d-acc-schools/Sources close to the SEC allege UNC is also engaged in serious discussions to join the SEC along with Duke.
The same sources indicate that the SEC is prepared to be the catalyst of the next round of conference realignment and move quickly to secure either UNC and Duke or Virginia Tech and NC State.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Every conference needs it's bottom dwellers to pile the wins on (football speaking at least). Duke's football value is awful though. They sold out their near 34,000 seat stadium once this year.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostDuke to the SEC?
But it would be really weird & odd to see Duke and UNC go seperate ways.

This is our only chance to go somewhere. TH said a couple years ago that he felt BYU would be included in a 16 team scenario. There's more attractive teams and markets in the ACC for the B12 to take.Originally posted by LiveCoug View PostThis all bodes very poorly for our Brigham Young University Cougars.
You're probably right. Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

IF the Big 12 ever goes to 16, I guess we have a tiny shot. Are there 6 teams from the new Big East and the remnants of the ACC that the Big 12 would take over us? Probably.Originally posted by The_Douger View PostThis is our only chance to go somewhere. TH said a couple years ago that he felt BYU would be included in a 16 team scenario.
