See multiple of my replies where I concede that a solid argument against UU inclusion is lack of TV value. I'm surprised you've gone with nothing "remotely similar between USC/Texas and Utah" since you're the one who brought them into the overall conversation of conference realignment and tried to use USC's response as a way to take a cheap shot. But, solid retreat from a crappy position on your part. I'll give you that.

      Let me help you:

USC/Texas: even rival schools cannot deny a major positive impact on the conference overall
Utah: no comparible impact on the conference overall

But, you're right. The comparison is terrible for, among other reasons, the fact that USC ENTERED THE B1G WITH ITS RIVAL.

Touche' on UCLA. But they are now arguing to keep out other west coast schools to preserve a competitive advantage.

BYU should want to preserve an advantage over Utah. Not sure how this is controversial.

It's not super controversial, but like any normative statement, there are facts and scenarios where the B12 is better served with Utah than without Utah in the long run.

Wanting it doesn't necessarily mean that we'll get it.

Just so that it is clear, I've advocated for taking ASU with UA. I have also advocated for letting Utah waft in the wind until the XII decides there are no better options (SDSU, UCONN, some ACC schools).

                      Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

There was an easy way for the Aggies and the Trojans to handle this: via contract. You think they didn't ask, or do you venture to guess that the B1G and SEC were not willing to accept that restriction? So, who's the idiot? The people pining for something that would never be, or the people who see the writing on the wall and take an alternative, more stable path? I know my answer.
To be fair, aTm hasn't been helped much by being in the SEC while Texas was in the Big12. I can't remember the last time aTm was relevant other than the Jonny Football days and even then they usually lost a couple games every year.

They had the #1 and highest-ranked recruiting class in history in 2o22. And promptly lost to App State at home.

They have frequently out-recruited Texas during their time in the SEC. It made a big difference.

But they are Aggies, so they squandered it.

So their recruits got ranked high and they raised a bunch of money to rebuild their stadium...but again, the on the field results havne't changed. If anything, they got worse.

To be fair, I think it needs to be mentioned that aTm is in the toughest division in college football in the SEC West. LSU, Alabama, Auburn along with SEC East opponents like Florida and Georgia. Clemson has also been on their OOC schedule. Texas A&M is not Alabama, never have been, nor should they expected to be. Will be interesting to see how Texas and Oklahoma fair in the SEC.

Also, Texas is bringing its rival with it to the SEC. I used to think Texas' rival was Texas A&M and that Oklahoma's rival was Nebraska. It has been OU-Texas all along.

To relate this post to B1G expansion: my gut tells me that the B1G will end up with 20 teams by adding Washington, Oregon, Stanford, and Notre Dame. Probably in that order.
