Ziggy looked good from the first game and he got progressively better. This is damning of BM's ability to assess talent. I specifically remember being impressed with not just his pass rush, but his ability to recognize and defend the screen.

Keep going, I don't even need to make the argument. You being on the other side is enough for most.Originally posted by Green Monstah View PostYou're such a dick.

You just won Coach's argument for him.Originally posted by Green Monstah View Post

Ziggy wasn't quite ready to be an every down player early in the season. Physically he was there but he lacked experience on the mental part of the game. Bronco handled him exactly right.

So it's just a coincidence that his break out game was Manumaleuna's first missed game? Don't think so.Originally posted by Shaka View PostYou just won Coach's argument for him.

Its clear that Ziggy was not ready his Jr. year, but there was a huge difference from Jr. Year and the Wazzu game. Maybe I'm just a moron, but I was calling for him to get more field time after the first game. Was he perfect? Obviously not. But in limited time he still got solo tackles, sack and QBHs. Once Manumaleuna went down and Muelmann quit, he got reps, and he got better. In other words, all that potential would have remained unrealized and untapped, but for circumstance. That's poor coaching, IMO.Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.

What you're not getting is he could quickly get off the edge and go after a quarterback but he was undisciplined in run support. He had trouble helping contain the edge, cheated when covering the inside gap, and made other mental mistakes. Mistakes like these made him a liability in the rushing game until they could be corrected. Most likely Bronco sussed them out quickly and got them fixed up in practice so that Ziggy was ready when his chance came. Kudos to Ziggy for taking advantage when the opportunity presented itself. It's going to make him millions. Also Manu was no slouch and there's a reason he was out there during running downs.Originally posted by Green Monstah View PostSo it's just a coincidence that his break out game was Manumaleuna's first missed game? So it took until there we were thin on the D-line before BM decided to coach Ziggy up. I rest my case. I'm not criticizing Manumaleuna at all. He was having a great season in my uneducated opinion.Originally posted by Shaka View PostWhat you're not getting is he could quickly get off the edge and go after a quarterback but he was undisciplined in run support. Ziggy was being coached up from the time they decided to let him on the football team. He simply wasn't as good as Manu in run support. You're knocking Bronco for not putting Ziggy out there simply based on potential. The truth is Ziggy is actually a very good example of how Bronco can develop a defensive player. The coaching staff literally took a track athlete from Africa at turned him into a football player. Bronco has his flaws but Ziggy doesn't represent one of them.Originally posted by Green Monstah View PostSo it took until there we were thin on the D-line before BM decided to coach Ziggy up. I heard Ziggy wasn't great in practice. He was obviously great in the actual game. One dialog that has emerged is that this was his first week practicing and playing his natural NFL position -- 4-3 DE. So he has a bit of a learning curve during the week and then explodes in the game.
There aren't that many chumps at the Senior Bowl. It's filled with 2nd and 3rd rounders and a handful of first rounders. 2nd and 3rd rounders are supposed to be starters in the NFL.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Several people said Ziggy was thinking too much during practices and it slowed him down.
I think he wiped away all of the doubts with how well he played in the game. He may have moved himself into the top 10 of the draft, and I think the combine's only going to enhance that.If we disagree on something, it's because you're wrong.

This really shouldn't be a compare/contrast of EM's talents and Ziggy's. they play different positions...it just so happens that EM's injury spread us so thin that Ziggy got his chance at DE.
Second, BM was clear that Ziggy would be used in pass-rush situations, which played out the first three games. If I understand you correctly, you say that Ziggy could not defend the run, which is why he wasn't an every-down player. Could your critique be at least partially attributed to BM's stated desire to use Ziggy as primarily a pass rusher?Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.
