I was reading that one of the Giant coaches really likes Ziggy, but said there was no way he would still be on the board when they picked.

Anybody else hear that Ziggy didn't train for the combine? He's been attending class and didn't hire an outside trainer but instead has been doing his normal routine. Supposedly the 40 he ran was his first ever according to his agent. I find that difficult to believe."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

I think there's some hyperbole going on here. Sounds to me like the agent is trying to play the "untapped potential" card for all it's worth.Originally posted by Surfah View PostAnybody else hear that Ziggy didn't train for the combine? I heard he wanted to finish school so he stayed. Let's face it, you aren't going to complete a a degree in his major online. Also considering just how in shape he already was and his sprinter past I don't see this as a big deal. Whatever he was doing before was definitely working for him.

Since his draft stock improved after the Combine, I'm not sure if he has to realize anything.Originally posted by wapiti View PostSeems like he has to realize that improving his draft position just a few spots will result in more cash than he will ever earn as an actuary. It's always about the money.

I would be very surprised if a track athlete who runs sprints has NEVER BEFORE ran a 40 or practiced starts without running a full 100 or 200. Though he may have felt he didn't need to practice those starts as much as someone who really never had done it before.Originally posted by Surfah View PostAnybody else hear that Ziggy didn't train for the combine? I would be surprised to learn he didn't work out at all. That makes for not only an incredible story - but a kind of moronic one too. And in all honesty - what NFL GM wants to hear that the player they are considering drafting cared so little to play in the NFL that he didn't even work out prior to the combine?

I'd wager Ziggy worked out. What he didn't do is go to one of the dedicated facilities geared towards improving combine measurables like most potential draft picks do.Originally posted by Eddie View PostI would be very surprised if a track athlete who runs sprints has NEVER BEFORE ran a 40 or practiced starts without running a full 100 or 200. I say good for Ziggy. He really didn't need one of these places.

When you consider that Ziggy had the best start to his 40 among the DE's, (fastest 10 yard time), whatever he did worked. It doesn't surprise me that someone who trained as a sprinter knows how to explode out of the start. For the non-track guys, the start to the 40 is probably not as second nature as it is to a sprinter.
I do remember hearing prior to the combine that Ziggy was working out on campus. I guess it worked for him, as he's likely now a top 10 pick. Has there ever been another potential 1st round NFL draft pick in the last 10 years (who intended to participate in the combine) who has foregone combine-specific training in order to finish his degree? If we disagree on something, it's because you're wrong.

This kind of explains something Zig said in an interview. He said that he wasn't going to run the 40 at all. It was a last minute change of heart. Why wouldn't he, since he knows he's got pretty good speed. Maybe because he didn't work out officially.

The shortest track distance I know of is the 60 m race. I understand that most combine training for the 40 is merely track training. For example, how to stay low and drive out of the block and how long to stay down until you naturally rise into a true sprinter form. Ziggy was a good enough sprinter that he probably didn't need and wouldn't get much benefit from that sort of training.

Had a team tell me about Ziggy Ansah's interview. Question: Have you ever seen lions or elephants. Ziggy (from Ghana): Yeah, in the SD Zoo.So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

It's like they expect him to be crocodile dundee...only from Africa. The media is weird."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf
