  • I'm wrong probably a lot more than I'm right, but I see Ziggy being a good pro. I think he will work hard enough to get the technique deficiencies corrected and his size and speed are NFL level.

Maybe I shouldn't jinx him by posting this.

My biggest worry about Ziggy right now is how he'll respond to the huge increase in surrounding hype and the corresponding fan expectations. If he ends up being a top ten pick then there will be an immediate expectation for him to produce. I'm just not sure how realistic that is for a guy with his background. I'd much rather him drop and get picked up by a Steelers or Ravens type team that know how to develop defensive talent and can give him the cover he will need. Going to a shitty program like the Browns can kill his career before it begins.

Great point. The guy is still pretty raw and inexperienced.

Amen to that. Especially since there is some talk of the Browns being very interested. The Lions seem to be talking him up as well which would be a much better fit. But I am not sure he goes that high though McShay now says Ziggy is top 12 easily after the combine.

Bucky Brooks on NFL.com was saying the media had created the majority of the Ziggy hype coming in to the combine. That none of it was coming from coaches or GMs of NFL teams. After Ziggys performance he is now saying he has never heard so much buzz about one player and he said it would not shock him at all if Ziggy went as high as #1.

Then again he also compared Margus Hunt to JJ Watt so I am not sure how much credibility he has.

              • The last of Ziggys results

3 cone of 7.11 good for 10th among DL

20Yd Shuttle 4.26 good for 1st among DL

I believe that gives Ziggy top 10 in all categorys except bench.

Exactly. Give him spot work on a good defense on a good team. Allow him to learn the tricks of the trade and grow into a full-time starter. All he needs is a crappy organization with a flash in the pan coach to deep six his career.

Many players are lost not due to lack of talent, but pure mismanagement.

Uh, that reporter was kind of odd.

Yeah, he was a little odd.

I hope Ansah slips a little bit and ends up with the Steelers or Giants. After watching the highlights from the Senior Bowl and how effective he was lining up wide, I think he could be that Jerome Harrison/Terrell Suggs type player in a 3-4. The Steelers supposedly want him pretty bad. That would be a nice fit for Ziggy and it would be good for his career.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

                        • McShay on Ziggy:

Speaking of value, BYU's Ezekiel Ansah (Grade: 91) is the story of the combine. Here's a guy who five years ago hadn't even watched a game and didn't know how to put on pads the first time he tried to play. When he did get the pads on, they told him to chase down a kick. He outruns the coverage by taking a bad angle, stops on a dime, turns and chases down the returner. BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall said all right, he's on the team.

The amazing thing about Ansah is that he wasn't even a starter coming into the season, and only had a chance to start when the guy in front of him got injured. So, it's remarkable how far he's come. He's a big-time player: disruptive, powerful, fast, with great size and closing burst, and a long wingspan. He doesn't have great instincts, but better than you'd expect for a guy with his history.

Sometimes you build up these physical freaks and you get to the combine and come away disappointed, but he was better than I expected. The Giants' Jason Pierre-Paul wasn't that polished, either, but the two players aren't that far apart.

I can't believe I'm saying it, but I legitimately think he belongs in the top 12 picks of this draft. I would be shocked if he made it to the 20s.

                              • More from McShay:

                                Ezekiel Ansah, DE, Brigham Young

You can factor in his lack of a football background and game experience, but it's hard not to get excited about Ansah's potential. He has the height, weight, speed, length, quickness and power to be highly disruptive in all facets of the game. After dominating the Senior Bowl, Ansah came to the combine and gave an impressive all-round performance. To be 6-foot-5 and 271 pounds and run a 4.63 40-yard dash is exceptional. He was also a top performer in the 20-yard shuttle at 4.26 seconds. He turned in one of the more complete workouts at the combine. Considering that he's never been a full-time starter, it's amazing that Ansah could work his way into the top 10 of this draft.
