You should be thanking the defense. Not Riley.

That was a nice pass, though, you are right.
For being a running QB, we have another running QB that seems to be much better at that facet of the game.

But man, Riley is a gamer!

I'm not a BYU fan and I'm not making excuses. I'm a Utah fan saying that I think BYU loses and these are the reasons.

I'm actually pulling for BYU in this game since there is no scenario where both schools lose.

BYU has a very tough turn around against a solid team in a tough road environment.

Those aren't excuses. They are facts.

Link? Thinking that the game was there for BYU to win is far different than saying they should hold their heads high. I never said anything of the kind. You are a silly rabbit who plays loosely with truth/facts, but I assume you already knew that.

When we first saw Riley, I thought he was a pretty talented runner. As we saw him more and more, to me it became clear that even though he didn't have a good arm, one of the biggest problems was that he didn't have the feet to justify that type of arm either. He could scramble a bit and keep plays alive, but he wasn't a threat to do anything truly damaging with his legs. He had just enough of each to smash inferior talent, but not enough of either to really make his type of game work when the competition level was upped.

do you think taysom hill would/could have led the drive that happened last night to put byu in position to win/tie the game? honest question, i haven't seen him play enough to know whether or not that's the case. in his college career he has rushed for 40 yards on 10 carries and is 2/4 passing for 40yds. questions of knowing the playbook and ability to lead a team aside, i'm not sure that's not enough for him to seem better at anything.

lead a drive where the QB makes a decision to pass for a 4 yard gain wasting clock, take a sack wasting clock, and put us in a position of having to kick a 48 yard field goal with a shaky kicking game? I guess Hill could have done worse.

In the end, I am not calling for hill yet. Riley just isnt a bad ass, not even close.

Wasn't that option play for a TD run by Taysom, though? Riley runs the option very poorly for someone who is supposed to be a dual threat.

                      My report:

We got to our seats about a half hour before kickoff. I don't know what all you guys are saying about the noise. I have been to every rivalry game at RES since 2000 (except 2010), and this is by far the most subdued atmosphere I've been in. The Ute players didn't seem amped like they normally are and the crowd was flat. There were a few times during the game the crowd was loud, but still nothing compared to past games.

We got about every break you could get. Starting with the Utes bailing us out with the facemask on the safety, every review and call seemed to go our way for most of the game. Riley is what he is and it just isn't good enough. He had a few very good plays with his legs to keep drives alive and there was the 4th down miracle to Hoff, but those were more than offset with boneheaded plays that could have ended in disaster and airmailing passes to open receivers when completions were sorely needed. And what happened on the snap-fumble return for a TD? Did the snap come before Riley indicated he was ready because I don't think he was even looking.

All that being said, I'm much more frustrated with the coaches than Riley. Riley is just a hard worker and plays his heart out. The coaches' mismanagement is why we have Rudy starting at QB. I am admittedly not an expert, but this is how I feel about this team. We can't really go any farther than Riley can take us. I would have loved to have seen what Taysom could have done in the second half.

It was a fun game to be at though, and maybe the craziest ending I've ever seen in person. I was impressed with the refs as I think they got the final two calls right in what was a very challenging situation.

I think John freaking Hays could have won us this game. Riley played awful...

This is where I'm at too. When Taysom comes in and runs, the difference is night and day. He picks his holes better, and hits them faster. Not only is he faster straight away, his first step is much quicker than Nelson.

I don't think Hill has enough knowledge of the offense to be any better than Riley this year. I think it would have been a push. I'm tempted to say that Riley just has a knack for making the big play, but Hall made the big play, Beck made the big play, etc.

According to Dick Harmon (yes, consider the source), Bronco worked 40 hours last week and Kyle worked 70. It shows.

When will Bronco figure out that yes, Kyle is working harder during Holy War week and whoever wants it more should win.

With JW3 out, I really thought BYU had a slight edge on talent on the field. But then you have these dumbass mistakes. It's these "little things" you cut corners on during practice that come back to bite you in the ass and become huge things. Six false starts? Inexcusable. Two bad snaps (actually most of them were lousy)? Inexcusable.

LaVell's teams didn't pull that shit. Our O looked scared, lost, confused, for much of the game. Our defense deserves MUCH better.

This is as pissed I've been after a loss to Utah in a while.
