Utes, it seems clear now that white was blowing smoke on wednesday when he said he was 100%. How much credence do you give to the initial rumors that he may be out 2 or 3 weeks? Is there any updated word on what is wrong with him?

This is a fair and completely accurate assessment, but I would say that Beck and Hall were great under Bronco and Anae, and Lark was completely unprepared to bridge the gap to Heaps. So as a result, we are stuck with Nelson when Lark, Munns and Heaps all failed to rise to the occasion. This issue was exacerbated when BYU decided to fire the very successful offensive coordinator that brought consistency and offensive identity to the program. These decisions are ultimately on Bronco, but I don't think there is a suitable replacement for him so we will have to grin and bear it as we will be forced to say, "Thank you sir can I have another" when we face the Utes again next year.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostYou know what I find interesting about this comment? The fact that right now this team's two biggest weaknesses are o-line and QB. And among almost all the units on the field, those are the two where BYU just has no excuse for being subpar in recruiting. Maybe the o-line is simply a coaching issue, as the they seem to continually underachieve. At this point I wouldn't be surprised to see them undergo the type of transformation the D did when Jaime got run.
But to me the biggest roadblock to this team being great is simply the QB position, and that just really frustrates me. Riley, god love him for how hard he works and his moxie, but to me there's just no reason for BYU to be fielding his type of talent level at the QB position. Just none. I'm not sure what's happened at that position, but it has been a total cluster. Given the type of LDS talent that is typically available, this just shouldn't be happening. And I don't know if it's our ability to evaluate the position, or develop these kids once they get into the program, or something else, but the fact that next year we'll be starting our third straight transfer and the second time in four years that we'll be relying on an underclassmen with precious little experience is extremely disconcerting to me.
It sucks, but it is just how it is.Last edited by Flystripper; 09-16-2012, 10:50 AM.Dyslexics are teople poo...

Doman. The QB doesn't have much authority to audible. Generally it's limited to stuff like changing a play going to the left to go to the right. The hurry up, it looks like they have a system, but Doman obviously created the system. And if Nelson is doing something wrong, it's Doman's job to tell him how to do it right.Originally posted by Non Sequitur View PostI have a question for the football experts. Is it Doman that is calling for all the option plays and QB draws or is it Nelson calling audibles to those plays? Also, does the hurry-up offense require Nelson to call more audibles? At the end of the day, how much of the blame goes to Doman and how much to Nelson?

WRONG. Bronco will have his team fired up and prepped to play the Utes next season. The Utes have woken a sleeping giant.Originally posted by Flystripper View PostThis is a fair and completely accurate assessment, but I would say that Beck and Hall were great under Bronco and Anae, and Lark and Munns were completely unprepared to bridge the gap to Heaps. -say what you want about riley, but the dude has stones. to have an absolute cluster of a game and then step up to throw that deep ball to hoffman shows what a gamer he is.
-wtf is up with byu's false starts? it was loud, but not that loud.
-i don't think byu had a good snap the entire game. it's a miracle that there was only one turnover from a bad snap. this offensive line is not good.
-utah's defense did not look particularly well conditioned from the end of the third quarter on. i'm not sure if it was fatigue or confusion that led to the blown safety coverage over the top on that hoffman play, but they could have avoided nearly getting the shaft because of some knucklehead fans.
-utah's receivers threw some huge blocks downfield and to seal ends.
-kyle van noy... wow

I'm giving him a 33% chance of playing this week, and a 100% chance of playing against USC.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostUtes, it seems clear now that white was blowing smoke on wednesday when he said he was 100%. Me too. And I'm a Doman fan. It was not a good move outside of coaching chemistry. Improving that has not helped nearly as much as an executing offense would.Originally posted by Flystripper View PostI have been upset with that decision since it was announced. Ok I will say what I want about Riley. He exposes the ball when he runs, he doesn't have a great arm, he lost the ball 4 or 5 times, he has trouble even throwing to the sidelines, and he just did something that has only been done one other time in 40 years, which is to lose to Utah as a senior QB, failing the biggest test of the season so far.Originally posted by camleish View Post-say what you want about riley, but the dude has stones. to have an absolute cluster of a game and then step up to throw that deep ball to hoffman shows what a gamer he is.

riley was bailed out several times, threw a lot of very bad balls, and had an otherwise thoroughly terrible game. and yet byu was still in a position to win the game by virtue of him willing them to be there as well as a little bit of luck.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostOk I will say what I want about Riley. Chemistry and unity are the most overused terms in sports. Chemistry and unity come from winning. Bad chemistry and disunity come as a result of losing. Not the other way around.Originally posted by CJF View PostMe too. And I'm a Doman fan. It was not a good move outside of coaching chemistry. And they lost, which is ultimately Riley's legacy. A loser gamer with stones or nuts or heart or whatever you want to call it. Riley is writing his own story this season. So far, not looking great.Originally posted by camleish View Postriley was bailed out several times, threw a lot of very bad balls, and had an otherwise thoroughly terrible game. and yet byu was still in a position to win the game by virtue of him willing them to be there as well as a little bit of luck.
Onward to Boise State where he can hopefully will the team to a win, not a loss.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

I don't think he is a stud. Hays is a stud. He is a hero on campus. Riley is a goat right now. He can help that with a win this week. What happens in November will be irrelevant.Originally posted by Hsaru View PostIts all that matters dude, he's a stud.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Side comment, but what's up with Jordan Wynn? Is he the first D1 starting QB that can't get a date? He's straight out of Revenge of the Nerds.

At least he is still trying to help the team after his injury, and not sitting behind the bench in 80s clothes disinterested.Originally posted by jay santos View PostSide comment, but what's up with Jordan Wynn?
