Off topic, but that is one of the things that fascinates me about the stand off between the owners and the refs. The refs are for the most part pretty accomplished people, and numerous of them lawyers as I understand it. It seems like the owners are looking at them and saying "fine, we don't need you" and the refs are sort of laughing, because unlike the players they don't really need the league either. Or at least sitting out doesn't make or break them. And the replacements have sucked so far. Just wait until they blow actual regular season games. Refs will be a big story over the next few weeks, IMO.

I recently read an interview with Ed and he intimated as much. His main point of contention with the NFL was that the NFL doesn't want to compensate them as full time employees even though he says he puts in 40 hours a week just on his responsibilities as a ref. He said because of his law practice he has to make great efforts to schedule cases and his work for the NFL. And the NFL can change his assignments at anytime and have. He says he spends each week reviewing film, reviewing the rule book, making appearances for the NFL, and working out just to be able to stay in shape to run the field. He said he can run up to 7 miles each game. And he said the other refs are just as professional and approach their job in the same way, yet the NFL treats them like expendable, part time guys.

We have similar approaches to football appreciation. I desperately want my team to win, but when they don't, well, you can't win them all.

I have a feeling that Goodell has a comeuppance in his future. Maybe the ruling on bounties is the first crack in the wall.

I'm pretty worried about the o-line. BYU's defense looks solid, especially the LBs. We'll be lucky to win next Saturday.

I'm fine starting Wilson right now! Hays is better than Wynn, but still an inaccurate passer.

How can this not have been foreseeable. They should have ended his career after last season. Everyone would have been better off.

I feel bad for him. ON the sidelines Friday (post-injury) he had this really nervous behavior of licking his lips and contorting his face. I thought it was just the close game, but maybe he knew he had played his final competitive football game.
