BYU has 3 everydown backs in Alisa, Hine and Juice. Alisa and Juice will be adequate at worst and potentially good. Hine came in with the best pedigree/recruitment of the 3. I venture to believe all 3 will be as good as say a Mcdonald-Ashford.

Iona Pritchard returns as a fullback as well.

If BYU could pick up a kid with wheels such as a Braithwaite I could see your point, but unless it is a player who gives BYU something they don't have or is an absolute sure fire starter, I don't see the benefit. BYU doesn't have a star yet in the backfield but it has some potential and a glut of decent players.

For BYU to be a great team clearly one of them needs to step up and be a great college rb, but unless BYU can surely get one of those from JC I don't think it is worth the scholarship. Bringing in another to raise it from 3 potentially adequate backs to 4 doesn't seem a wise allocation of scarce resources.

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

I also heard we may see Falslev get some time in a JJ Diluigi type of role coming out of the backfield if they need him.

We also have Anthony Heimuli, Algernon Brown and Peni Ma'kafi but I am not sure any of them will be back.

Brown and Ma'kafi are on missions but Brown was talking about going to Utah State when he returned.

Heimuli came home from his mission early and not sure what he is doing now.
Moore will be back at BYU. I do not expect any of the others to come back to BYU. Iona will be the FB for the next 3 years. JoJo Pili should be back home this summer and will likely return to BYU. He will redshirt next year and then back up Pritchard until he gets his shot. Besides that since Doman is taking BYU to a spread option they won't need fullbacks.

That's my point. We need a great RB especially with Nelson at QB and breaking in a new QB in 2013. Unless Hine or Jamal become that then I don't see another on the roster.

Another reason we need a different type of RB than we currently have in the stable. Our every down type backs are not fit for the spread.

I think Falslev could use some carries as a flyback. In my world if BYU runs about 75 plays a game I would like to see BYU run the ball 40 times. Of those 40 rushes this is my breakdown: Alisa-15, Juice - 9, Nelson - 9, Hine - 3, Falslev - 2, Pritchard - 2

For Nelson it would be 4-5 scrambles, 4-5 qb draws and the occasional option play. I could live with the option being shelved.

The spread comment was in jest. I think while BYU wants a dual threat qb it will still be out of a west coast pro set and what Doman wants is a qb who can run the occassional qb draw and create when plays break down.

I think Alisa will be significantly better next year than he was this year, and he wasn't bad. Chances are if there is a great JC RB, I am not convinced he would pick BYU given the young backs in the program.

I thought Heimuli was done at the Y. The info came from a poster that I think is on this site, so I'll let him share if he wants.

Or it's doubtful that he'd get a shot with Bronco at the helm so you're likely right.

Still I am not sold on Alisa. He produced against crap. Same way Juice did his freshman year. TCU shut him down. I think the main reason I am down on Alisa is because of the disappointment I have in Juice.

Alisa is basically in his first year as a full time RB. That year is his first season after a mission. I think he will be a pretty good back next year. I think he can be as good as Curtis was as a JR and a SR, but I doubt he gets as many carries because I think both Juice and Riley will carry the ball close to double digit times each.

Curtis had two of the best seasons ever at BYU as a junior and senior with over 2000 yards rushing averaging 5 ypc and 20 TDs. If Alisa comes close to that I would be thrilled. I just don't see that happening at all. Certainly not with the schedule we have over the next two years.

I think he will have 15 cpg averaging about 5 ypc. I also think he will have 40 receptions and score about 10 tds.

Like I said, I hope you're right. I just don't see that in Alisa.

                              • I think you can see the improvement in Alisa as the year progressed. He started the year trying to bounce everything and outrun faster DBs and LBs to the corner. He has now developed in to a true one-cut back. He makes his one move and hits the hole hard whether it is there or not. He has learned to trust his lineman to make sure he has room to run and if not then take the 3 yards and live to fight another play.
