Yeah I really was assuming things would be different for him at OSU, but it's hard to keep thinking it's just bad luck. The two worst offenders over the weekend weren't his recruits, but there's still got to be something about how he runs the team that facilitates bad behavior. It seems Tim Gardner has been booted. If you count Marcus Baugh's arrest last week, a pattern might be developing. 4/5-star athletes get suspended and handled internally, while 3-stars get kicked off the team. Low sample size and they still might kick some others, but Urban doesn't seem to be doing anything to dissuade the critics.Comment

Interesting to specualte on the role a head coach has with developing character in players as well as winning. I like to think successful coaches do both.
In my view, I cut Urban Meyer a lot of slack. We won't know all that Meyer may have done to try and help Hernandez. To steal from a poster from another message board, "...who knows how many additional people Hernandez may have allegedly killed had not Meyer given him a football scholarship...".
The reason I give Meyer the benefit of the doubt is because of what transpired with Tom Osborne when he started winning national championships at Nebraska. He was mentor and coach to a gifted RB with a troubled past. In the past, he was successful at reforming similarly situated players including a Heisman Trophy winner. But Lawrence Phillips was beyond reform, and consequently, the wrath of the media was directed at Osborne and his very successful football team.

As for the others. We'll see what happens. I will make the comment of this. I was highly critical of Tressel's "treatment of athletes based on who they were" and will be just as critical to Urban. I want no preferrential treatment of athletes. Kick them off..
As for the aggressive nature of Urban's players. Having watched his practices, workouts, and the aggressive mentality he expects of his players and the "Me vs. the World/Chip on their shoulder" mentality seems to pour out outside of the field. I wonder if this aggressive model is why so many of these guys forget to flip the switch off. The drug/substance issue is different and he needs to figure it out.
He needs a "Zero-Tolerance" policy. Doesn't matter if you are to blame or not. If you name pops up in the enws negatively, you're off the team. No one is above the policy.. Until he gets serious, he will still have flare-up's of problems. I hope he steps this up...

Sports on the condition of anonymity said. The source said video shows Hyde speaking in the direction of the alleged victim just prior to her punching him in the head. The video then shows Hyde leaving the area and reaching back in the woman's direction in a non-confrontational manner, the source said. IMO, a bit extreme. There needs to be some due process involved and the Carlos Hyde incident is a good example.
