I honestly don't know if BYU football is fixable to the point of getting to the"s "elite" level. There are just to many "structural impedements".
Stanford wins with restrictions, but they are of a different nature. Besides Stanford offers a schoarship worth what, over $50,000 vs BYU at $4,000.
Although my common sense told me all the Bronco speak in the beginning about executing at a higher level and stars don't mean anything, it is about getting kids to play with heart and grit it wasn't going to really gets us there. I hoped I was wrong.
Could someone gets us where we were under Bronco a couple of years ago, beating bad teams, occasionally beating a good team and ending with a w/l record that gets us top 25, sure. However, with the structural issues, forget elite level football.
I wonder if Bronco is still getting letters from GA's telling him not to worry about the fans, they have his back and that is all that matters.Last edited by byu71; 11-18-2012, 11:33 AM.

You don't need to be elite to do something special with the schedules BYU has, you just need to fake it in one game a year like Boise St and Utah.Originally posted by byu71 View PostI honestly don't know if BYU football is fixable to the point of getting to the"s "elite" level. With what we know about the criteria for a HC at BYU, hiring a coach to replace Bronco is a crap shoot. No proven HC is going to take the job at BYU. Kyle wasn't a proven HC and he even turned it down. Reid was into the process and lost interest.Originally posted by Hsaru View PostYou don't need to be elite to do something special with the schedules BYU has, you just need to fake it in one game a year like Boise St and Utah.
Our best hope is Bronco has a attitude change. If enough people who "count" tell him he doesn't have to, he won't.
By the way beating the dead horse about Heaps won't change anything either.

Bronco should hope that Heaps fails next season. Otherwise he is going to look even worse to the BYU fan base.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

I understand that Andy was primed by Lavell to be the successor and that Lavell indicated to the admin that he thought Reid was the appropriate successor.
He was sort of half-heartedly contacted by Val, as I understand it, but the entire deal was homecooked for Crowton via childhood friend Val.
Reid was never really a candidate.

We may not be in conflict at all. I am speaking of the time of the Crowton firing and ensuing search for a successor. Perhaps you have information that would dispute what I heard at this time too, but this is what I heard.Originally posted by Viking View PostMy esteemed friend, I have conflicting information.

Reid was listening and I assume Lavell would have been pleased had he come. I don't know about Kyle, but Lavell was also supportitive of Reynolds, his long time assistant. This decision was made way above the AD level.
This was a matter of who had the most inspiring testimony of what could be done at BYU as far as becoming elite while at the same time accomplishing it while maintaining the so called "higher standards".
Two of the candidates backed out because they saw the criteria as unreasonable, Reid and Whittingham. Bronco was the most convincing that he could lead the program to great heights with "strippling warriors".
I will admit it is possible my source heard things and then made some additional interpetations. However, it does seem a reasonable account of events.Last edited by byu71; 11-18-2012, 01:44 PM.

You're undervalueing a BYU scholly, as they're subsidized by tithing.Originally posted by byu71 View PostI honestly don't know if BYU football is fixable to the point of getting to the"s "elite" level. There are just to many "structural impedements".

I'm just about done. I said earlier part of me ... I'm now all in for a 7-6 season.
Heaps tearing it up next year at KU while BYU has a losing season would be good too.

You have a hard time recognizing when you've been trolled. I hit the button to publish and count down the minutes until you respond. Death, taxes and DDD responding to Viking. I own you.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostThank you for sharing your inside information here. It is usually very reliable.
