I think it is laughable that folks believes this is really how he operates. Saying that the reality that he still likes to troll the BYU fanbase speaks to a shortcoming I think he has as a coach. Too much of it is about Bronco. One of his former players called it "immaturity" and said he noticed it when he first met Bronco as his new DC. Bronco's approach at their first meeting was clenched and it instantly became a conflict of wills. There is some merit in developing toughness and most of Bronco's results speak well of his methods but I think his neccesity for too much of it to be about him is one of the things that holds the program back. One comparison point for this is how Utah versus BYU board planes. At Utah the players get on first and the admin/coaches end up cramped in the back. At BYU the admin and coaches get on first and enjoy the comfiness of up front while the players get crammed into the back. Further, the gayness of the 3 point stance on the sideline sprinting onto the field for the defense highlights it. Part of Bronco's weirdness appeal to me..as hopfrog said "the weirder the Church is the more I love it." Belonging to a religion most people I interact with find bizarre, until I moved to Idaho, has always been something that I have perversely enjoyed so some of Bronco's weirdness appeals to me similarly, but the reality is I think it is impairing the program. There are probably many other reasons as well but I do think that when one asks why more and more kids that BYU landed for many years is heading to Utah, especially poly kids, one of my beliefs is the difference in the cultures. I have read how many of the kids who choose Utah talk about the family atmosphere. I think that is because with Whit there is a sense that it is more about the kids while with BYU too much of it is about the HC.
