More than calling a running play when the game is cinched, a more serious lack of judgment and poor taste is to use the word "optics" to refer to how a situation looks.

This is not to even mention the fact that the previous option play was an unnecessary risk and should have been taking a knee.Originally posted by Tone Loc View PostThose are terrible excuses. After their second first down the game clock was running with about 1:35 left and 30 on the play clock. They sat in the huddle looking to the sideline for a good 15 seconds. There is no excuse good enough to not have your first and only call to take a knee. This might be one of the biggest blunders I have ever seen in coaching, all because they injured a kid with so much athletic ability in the process.
Even before they got the ball, Doman should have done the math and figured out what needs to happen to win the game, how many timeouts they have left, etc. That is a quick calculation.
I can't give them a pass on this one, there is way too much collateral damage. You don't get a pass when you ruin a kids knee on a boneheaded error that was easily avoided.

I think I am most upset that we have lost 2 QBs this year and one of those is returning to start but not at 100%. This QB has not played a full season without getting hurt and still our coaching staff said that all (100%) of practice snaps went to the healing starter and it will be that way the remainder of the week.
okay. I hope Lark gets in somehow and just kills it.

Going off of memory, the scoring drive was mostly Hill throwing to Hoffman.Originally posted by jay santos View PostHow many times did he run during the drive we scored, and how many carries did he have on drives where we didn't score?"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. Just so you know, it was actually UNLV that recovered the fumble and ran it back 100 yards for a touchdown. It was Baylor that was trying to rub it in with an extra touchdown.Originally posted by ERCougar View PostHow much were you making when this happened to you?
I'm all for giving people passes, and I've defended the coaches plenty of times. God knows I would not do a better job. But how many passes do they get? This is far from their first clock-management mistake. Beyond that, this is not what you expect at this level of football (in fact, I can't think of a single time when a team that had the game in hand actually ran a play instead of kneeling--maybe that time when UNLV went for a score, fumbled and had it run back for a TD?). Sure, you might have made that mistake, but nobody was paying you 500k+ to NOT make that kind of mistake. Add to this the false starts, the two point conversion, the no onside kick, the potential mismanagement of the QBs, and these coaches are getting harder and harder to defend. Doman seems like a good guy who was maybe given more than he could chew. Add a bishop calling to the mix (and the pressure to accept that calling--I really want to kick his SP in the nuts), and it's a lot on his plate. I feel bad for him. I hope he gets it worked out. But this has gotten ridiculous.
And of course, there's the Miracle in the Meadowlands. This is Football 101 when it comes to the lesson of Why You Should Take a Knee.

http://www.cougarboard.com/board/mes...tml?id=9370735PK Interview with Lark on 1280 this morning
Per Lark (PK was fishing for him to vent about being demoted from #2 to #3):
Lark said he practiced as #1 all week prepping for the Yewtah game because of Riley's back. He was thinking all week he would start, then was told on Friday Riley would go but to be ready to play. Then on Monday he was told he is #3 and Taysom is #2.
Seems really weird that all of that happened without Lark stepping onto the field during an actual game.
On a positive note, Lark seems level headed, said it was hard to take but he is not a quitter and is preparing everyday incase the team needs him.
Our QB situation since Doman took over as OC.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

You already know the answer, don't you? Taysom had the same number of carries on the TD drive as ds7 has working brain cells: 0.Originally posted by jay santos View PostHow many times did he run during the drive we scored, and how many carries did he have on drives where we didn't score?Last edited by SoCalCoug; 10-09-2012, 09:43 AM.If we disagree on something, it's because you're wrong.

The interview that Lark have last night just adds another layer of drama to this QB situation. He was groomed to play the Utah game, received first team reps, but then at the last second he is told Riley (who was clearly in no condition to play) will be starting. What the hell is going on?
Franchuck put it well:
http://m.heraldextra.com/sports/coll...medium=twitterBut the fact Lark's clearly disturbed still by what occurred, it shows a lack of communication. Doman wasn't forthright with him. Just like Nelson wasn't forthright with coaches. And coaches, even with time on their side, couldn't relay the right message to Hill in a succinct amount of time.

Perhaps there was a miscommunication between Doman and Lark. Doman gave Lark the "clock is rolling" hand signal, meaning, "the clock is rolling on your eligibility." Lark misinterpreted the hand signal to mean, "you are going to play next game."Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats.

That sucks Doman got his future QB injured in a game by running him 19 times on series that resulted in no points against Utah State.
