So I guess it's either you're undefeated in the national championship or it's a boring season that sucks? What are you trying to say?Originally posted by TripletDaddy View Postlol.
This is exactly what I'm saying. The notion of playing for something only applies to a handful of teams nationwide that are...well.....actually playing for something.
If the complaint about Indeoendence is that scheduling is difficult and leads to a greater proportion of lower tier games, then I can get on board with that. But how many teams in BCS conferences were playing for something in November? By that time, most teams are completely out of the conference championship race and many are bowl ineligible.
Winning is the key. Not conference affiliation.
That being said, I would prefer a B12 affiliation.

It is the Boise model. It works. But you have to win. We didn't. If Boise lost three games by October, nobody would care about them either. The schedule this past season was no worse than the average Boise schedule. We had our shot with Texas, ole miss, Utah, and Oregon state on the schedule. We fell way short. Pretty simple.Originally posted by byu71 View PostYou can throw out those who voted top 15 or higher as jokesters. I would say 20-25 would be about right.
If you can get ranked in the top 25 playing a dumbed down schedule and winning 10 games, two against teams with winning records, maybe this Independence and scheduling crap teams is a good formula.
If BYU had gone into Novemeber undefeated, how many would be upset with the soft landing going into bowl season? Everyone would probably be excited about the easy wins and the likelihood of winning out.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

1. Record last season
2. Returning QB?
3. Number of starters returning
Based on that, BYU will likely be at the bottom of the top 25.

Right we were the 3rd best team in the MWC this year. We should be fortunate to have finished the season ranked 25th in the coaches poll when you look at our season through an MWC lens.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostWhat would we have played if we were in the MWC this year?

I think it is pretty obvious not many would be upset with the no loss season. Some would wonder how good a team we really are, much like folks wondered about Hawaii when they went undefeated. It would have been exciting to go to a BCS game like Hawaii did and find out.
Might also have been like the year Utah beat Pitt. and BSU beat Oklahoma. I don't think either of them had a big win on their resume's.
That said, the excitement is tempered by playing the season with very few "good" games. It is an all or nothing scenario. One in which the only really, really great game is the BCS game. People can save their money to buy tickets if we get there.

No just trying to lend some perspective here. We would have finished 3rd in the MWC this year, maybe worse. But that's not so much a dig on BYU as much as we were just not as good as TCU or Boise this year.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostAre you Hsaru's love child?
I think we should be fortunate to finish ranked where we did. Texas finished unranked. Missouri finished unranked. Notre Dame finished unranked. TAMU finished unranked. Washington unranked. Does anyone think we could have beaten any of those teams? I don't. Like I said, we should feel fortunate with where we ended up.
BYU had a good season. But it was still a disappointing season. Very disappointing actually for a number of reasons. The two aren't mutually exclusive. I am sure Les Miles agrees."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

yes we should expect to lose to Utah at home by 44. Bye this team would have lost to at least 4 of the teams we lost to last year.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostThe team was a 7-6 mess in 2010. I think 2011 represents a reasonable amount of improvement over 2010. If you were looking for a lot more in 2011, then you got what you deserved.

Wining 10 games while only beating 2 teams with winning records gets you into the SEC championship game and ranked #16, so yeah, seems to work.Originally posted by byu71 View PostIf you can get ranked in the top 25 playing a dumbed down schedule and winning 10 games, two against teams with winning records, maybe this Independence and scheduling crap teams is a good formula.

Didn't we lose by 1 @ Texas? What makes you think TAMU was good? Is Washington significantly better than last year? Are you only thinking of the Utah game? They played a close home game against Hawaii and lost to Oregon State. They ended up with 7-6 record.Originally posted by Surfah View PostNo just trying to lend some perspective here. I don't think we are necessarily better than those teams. But there is not much reason to thing they were better than BYU this year.

The contrast isn't that stark. Not stark at all, actually. The AP and coaches voted BYU into the same exact spots; it's just that USC doesn't show up in the coaches poll.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostAwesome. I guess now we can all sit back and ride this final ranking into ranked preseason glory next summer. The AP isn't impressed at all and the coaches are barely impressed to vote BYU into the dead last spot....but this team is coming back next year baby.

I'm more interested playing the Utes in the last game of the season for bragging rights than just playing for in a crappy conference and fighting for position.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View Postlol.

Please, don't tell me you are one of those who slides his head up his butt and then tries to compare a SEC 10 win team with this years BYU 10 wins.Originally posted by Jacob View PostWining 10 games while only beating 2 teams with winning records gets you into the SEC championship game and ranked #16, so yeah, seems to work.
