If our motley assortment of sub-par running backs could average its highest ypc for BYU since 2005, just imagine what BYU could have done if they had a real RB playing for them.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostIgnorant hyperbole at its worst.

Considering Staley is the only guy to rush for over 1500 yards I am still going to call your statement hyperbole.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostIf our motley assortment of sub-par running backs could average its highest ypc for BYU since 2005, just imagine what BYU could have done if they had a real RB playing for them."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

1500/13 = 115 yards per gameOriginally posted by Surfah View PostConsidering Staley is the only guy to rush for over 1500 yards I am still going to call your statement hyperbole.
Given that BYU had jack shit at QB the last two years and was running 40 times a game, Unga would have been getting 25+ carries a game and even at the 4.2 yards per carry the lesser RBs were averaging (Harvey's career ypc was just under 5.0), Harvey would have hit that mark.

Maybe. I suspect though if we had a legit running attack we would have seen better QB play.Originally posted by Indy Coug View Post1500/13 = 115 yards per game

Also, I doubt that he gets 25 carries a game. I bet he would have averaged around 100 yards a game. 5 ypc and 25 carries outer game."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

This conversation has turned into a "who would you do?" scenario.
Which produces more yards: Trent Richardson behind BYU's OL or JJ DiLuigi behind Wisconsin's OL? Make sure you stridently assert statistics for each hypothetical scenario while acting all indignant about it. Ready, go.

BYU finishes ranked 25th in USA Today poll. Five out of six seasons BYU has been ranked in a final poll.

I'll stick with the tried and true "scoreboard".

And unranked in the AP. I have yet to see the breakdown of the coaches' poll but I bet we snuck into the top 25 because of Bronco. In the last poll before the bowl games he had BYU ranked the highest of all 59 coaches at #22. I would be interested to see what he ranked BYU in comparison with the other coaches. Of note in the last poll, only a handful of coaches had BYU ranked at all. Gary Anderson and Kyle Whittingham did not rank BYU at all.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostBYU finishes ranked 25th in USA Today poll. Interesting question. I vote Richardson with our line. My opinion is that a great RB is more valuable than a great OL.Originally posted by woot View PostThis conversation has turned into a "who would you do?" scenario.

I'm not trying to defend the OL here, but I think the running game the last couple years was about as good as it could be, given the RB and QB talent (QB also being important to the running game as a great passing game will keep the defense from stacking the box).
One of the most biggest priorities of the program should be getting in some RB talent. It's a bad sign when we hype guys like Diluigi and Quezada who were rated something like #60 in their position coming out of high school.

Awesome. I guess now we can all sit back and ride this final ranking into ranked preseason glory next summer. The AP isn't impressed at all and the coaches are barely impressed to vote BYU into the dead last spot....but this team is coming back next year baby.Originally posted by Surfah View PostAnd unranked in the AP. Not a bad season at all. It would rate up there with other seasons where the tone was much more positive. The poor schedule, poor display in big games, conference affiliation issues, and the Heaps issue (for the Heaps luvrs) made it seem a lot worse than it was.
