I will tell you one guy who is excited, Mr. Greg Wrubbell. I was listening on my way to the course when Hoffman scored at the end of the first half.

I swear he sounded like we had just won the super bowl.

I wonder if there has ever been a group of fans as distraught as this over a ten-win season and last-second bowl victory? What an odd year.

No kidding. And I count myself in that group. It's like there is a huge asterisk next to the 10-3. I think it's because the schedule in the first year of independence was SO incredibly weak. And we lost to almost every halfway decent team we played. So there is just this gigantic question mark.

Five 10 win seasons in 6 years, in all likelihood finishing in the top 25 in five of six years, winning 3 more games than last year, coming up clutch winning 18 of their last 20 games decided by 7 points or less, winning in the last 15 seconds of a game they trailed almost the entire game.

More wins than 105 out of 120 teams over the last 5 years, better winning percentage against teams with a winning record than 104 of 120 teams over the last 5 years, 5 bowl wins out of 7 attempts (we were 7-15-1 before Bronco).

I know we should just be grateful for the consistency but I am not. Especially when I have a head coach that is selling me the BCS trophy is within our grasp. I am also not satisfied when our rival has crashed the BCS with similar talent not once but twice. Not to mention the success of TCU, Boise State, Hawaii, etc who too are similarly talented.

I think our team underachieved this year given the talent of this team. I think our coaches have bungled personnel on both sides of the ball. The lack of development in some of our players is disgusting. Not having a plan for Heaps is inexcusable. We had a cherry schedule this year to capitalize on and we shit the bed. We caught Texas, TCU, and Utah in down years. We have one of our most experienced OLs ever and they underperformed every game. Our players were out of shape and in no condition to really compete at the start of the season. We have no running back we can depend on. We have no tight end. Our secondary was pretty bad and despite our defensive ranking, we struggled all year to get pressure on opposing QBs.

We need a new OL coach and S&C coach. We need a QB coach and I maintain that Bronco needs to hire a DC. I think his dedication to the defense caused some lapses in his oversight and management of the team, particularly the offense.

Just got back from the game. What a until the last four minutes. Ugh! I haven't read this thread and likely won't but just thought I'd say the following:

- Tulsa gameplanned very well. They took away Riley's running and played very good coverage down field. Their DBs and safetys were tall (the free safety looked to be about 6'7") which mitigated any height advantage we might have.

- Eason sucks. It would be different if he was in good position and just didn't make the play because he's short, but he's not even in position to make a play. Good riddance.

- Uale sucks but luckily the dline and LBs didn't let him make many tackles take bad angles. Our run D was great.

- We need a different RB.....or at least bring back Alisa. I hope Hine or someone else pans out or else we are in trouble. I guess we were spoiled with Brown/Unga for so long.

- What's with the freakin' unnecessary timeouts? It happens every game that we burn one trying to get set up early in Q1 or Q3. In fact, I think we burned 2 timeouts in Q3, which could have really hurt us at the end of the game.

- Nelson's arm is weak and he throws some really bad passes under duress....at least from the pocket. He made some real headscratcher throws today but for every bad throw he seems to always make the play we need (4th down run, fake spike/TD, TD where he and a helmetless MR bought time, etc.).

- Nelson not only says the right things but also leads the team. The guy never gives up and is an all out gamer. I love that attitude.

- Ogletree is always wired. He's got an incredible vertical leap anytime anyone hits anything really hard.

- BYU was FLAT!!!!! The guys were not all there and it showed. The Oline was dominated and thankfully the D pulled out of its early funk and went into virtual shutdown mode.

- Van Noy is awesome.

- Sorry showing by all fans. The stadium was maybe half full. Maybe most fans knew there would be little energy during the game and chose to watch at home. It was perfect weather for a game. Gotta love Texas in December.

While that may all be true, it doesn't change the fact that we struggled this year against mostly piss poor competition. We came out on top 10 times, usually barely and always against bad teams.

I watched Riley and Hoffman's last touchdown like four times, since it was so entertaining. I learned that Marcus Matthews (#80) obviously had no idea what Red Alert meant, LOL. Actually, I think that was what helped sell the fake, since he just stood there like a normal intentional grounding play.

Also, Falslev was running and waving his hands as soon as he was in the endzone. No, JD, you were not open, Hoff was.

Ogletree did look good in this game, much better than he did in the TCU game. He has always played hard as long as I have seen him play which dates back to his pop warner days.

I thought our defensive line didn't look that good. There were times their QB just sat in the pocket and had all day to throw. Out d-line clearly had the size advantage but it really didn't show. Also, our offensive line also towered over Tulsa's D-line but their line was still able to get good penetration and control the run evident by the QB sacks, hurries (including the hit that caused an INT), and TFLs. In short, I thought Tulsa looked good on both sides of the ball when it came to the line.

You're showing your youth here--you wouldn't have lasted very long in the 80s. Consistency against bad competition is what we are. It's what brought us a national championship. It's what brought Lavell a stadium.

But now our coaches suck? See woot's post--when is our recruiting class ever ranked highly? Maybe some of these "coaching issues" are really "talent issues". And we can't be happy with a 10-win season where we had a QB controversy (I'm sorry--I just can't stomach any more of the 10+ excuses why Jake's struggles were everyone else's fault), a brand new OC, and in what we all knew would be a building year? Down year for TCU? I guess, based on the last few years, but they're still top 25, and we damn near beat them at home. Texas is also 24th in the mratings conglomerate (sorry--I think the polls are ridiculous). Tulsa was 30th.

I'm curious about the stylistic differences between the two posts. The second paragraphs are identical so we can throw those out. You added the "underrated" sentence as a afterthought, so let's throw that out. But in the first paragraph, you try two different approaches, both of which say basically the same thing. Why the double post? I'm not challenging the post itself, but the reasoning for posting the same thing two times in a row but for some minor cosmetic changes. I think it is interesting.
