LOL. That's the prevailing sentiment? And you say that other people are overreacting?

It's possible that he has been working hard, but not working on the right things. It wouldn't surprise me to know that Jake spend 4 hours every day in the summer throwing bombs and 15-yard outs to Apo. That is a lot of throwing and hard work, but obviously it's not the area that needs work.

I wonder if John Beck could somehow give Jake a call and give him a few tips on how to take some velocity off the short passes.

I can believe this. It also seems like he's been coached by an NFL QB coach.

Throwing an out 80 mph out of bounds and two feet above your WR's hands is a better NFL throw than a floater across the middle. Yet Jake is making the first pass over and over and getting nowhere. Nelson comes in and makes the second pass and we win.

        • Best chance for Heaps to reach full potential = Back up the rest of this season and redshirt next year.

If you were advising him, if you advised him to red shirt, would you have him do it at BYU?

He and Doman aren't going to be buddies. I am not sure Doman is going to end up being a good OC.'

You might be right about red shirting, but if you are it won't be at BYU. He is already is married so he has had the BYU experience.

BYU's his best chance. He will have every opportunity to win back his starting job for the next year and a half. The only reason he won't be starting again by the end of this or next season is that he absolutely sucks.

I don't think he needs a redshirt year. That would be counterproductive at this point.

That leaves a lot for interpretation, doesn't it? This is a kid who held his own press conference to announce his intention to play in Provo. At Iggy's no less.

You do realize that press conferences for top 5 star athletes are more the norm than rare?

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Makes me also wonder how much the low YPA is being drug down by scheme (short routes/not allowing for YAC) and how much of it is Heaps. His YPA definitely goes up if he connects on a few of the longer passes that have been very close, but again, enough to make a difference?
If say most of it can be blamed on heaps. He hasn't been close on the deep balls, not even giving guys a chance to catch it.
