It's really too bad we only have one more game scheduled against BYU

        • The one turnover that is still stumping me is the Wynn pick in the beginning of the second quarter. On the 13, out of shotgun. No pressure. Wynn has a receiver behind the D and instead of throwing it high and over the D, he throws it straight to the Dback. I mean right to him. That could have put us up 14-7 or at least 10-7. That was a mood killer and the thing that just keeps bothering me that there was no excuse for it. Our wr had the D beat by a step and a fade may have worked and the OLine was holding the D's charge off so Whnn had time. That play is bothering me tonight because it was a huge momentum changer. That and allowing the fg at the end of the second quarter because of 30 yards in penalties, are making me play the "what if" game tonight. Those were 2 huge gifts to Washington.

I thought we took the wins out of washington's sails from the TD on the opening kickoff with the Wynn to Anderson TD. These 2 moments definitely gave Washington an edge heading into the second half.

The play calling seems to change in the redzone...stick with what is working for you...roll Wynn out, run some misdirections etc...

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Sure, that's great and all, but a few more seasons of losing 5 conference games per year and Whit's out of a job.

                • So all that talk a couple seasons ago about the PAC(1) was a bunch of crap, I guess. PAC12 is a step up indeed.

Cougar fans can take satisfaction in the fact that BYU beat the Huskies last year even with the rotating QB fiasco. On the other hand, the Big12 next year is going to be absolutely brutal for the Cougars.

This post is cute. The PAC is garbage and your division is the worst of the two. This is the same PAC-12 defense that gave up 27 points to Eastern Washington, 32 points to Hawaii and 51 to Nebraska.

A couple other examples of stellar PAC-12 defenses...

The USC team that put up 48 against Arizona's PAC-12 defense, could only manage 19 points at home against Minnesota's defense - the same Minnesota defense that gave up 58 points to Michigan yesterday.

The same Colorado team that scored 27 against Washington State, could only get 17 against Hawaii, 14 against Colorado St (Utah St scored 34? against CSU) and 17 against Ohio St.

UCLA's PAC-12 defense gave up 38 to Houston and 49 to Texas (remember BYU's independent Mid Major gave up 17 to that same Texas team?)

                    I'm like LeBron James.

                    • Here is the terrible truth nobody but me will utter, the truth that is so awful no one but me can confront. The utter randomness, the arbitrariness of some of these games is a horror to contemplate.

If these two teams played again, who the hell knows would win. Same with Utah and BYU. Those three teams are so evenly matched one could beat the other on any given day, but we see the devastation instantaneous lapses can cause.

For want of a nail the shoe was lost.
For want of a shoe the horse was lost.
For want of a horse the rider was lost.
For want of a rider the battle was lost.
For want of a battle the kingdom was lost.
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.
This truth is terrible because we Ute fans can't comfort ourselves that our team really is 44 points better than BYU, and it's awful because we know what might have been--that we might have beaten the Huskies 31-14.

Maybe the worst part is you can't coach away lapses like Wynn's horrendous interception in the second quarter, a bullet straight into the hands of the defender while Chistopher was wide open behind him in the End Zone. You can't coach away Lacy's killer fumble on the opening kick off; you tell him to keep fighting till he's down, to keep fighting for that seam and maybe he'll break loose for a long return. But the risk is that someone will strip the ball amid these heriocs and disaster will ensue; and you can't coach that from happening. Shit happens.

It's awful to contemplate that so much of life is so random, so arbitrary. But it is. It just is.

Not to interrupt the self-congratulations, but you are hardly the first to observe that the outcome of the BYU-Utah game was a fluke.

No, it wasn't. That doesn't change the fact that yours was butt-ugly (but endearing, in its own way).
