imho, BYU played this very well. Football is the driver of the budget, of which ticket sales are a huge part. With the lackluster schedule, season ticket sales were struglling. They had 1 game people wanted to attend.Originally posted by DU Ute View PostYes, they're having fun with it over at utefans.net.
Their response, raise the price drastically for that one game and force the purchase of 2 other games to effectively sell a season ticket.
From a $$$ standpoint, BYU did a lot better the way they approached it. Even if it ends up not being a sell-out, to me that shows they priced it well. If they end with a few units unsold, that's better than exhausting the inventory in June at a much lower price.

I think it's a combo of things and I don't completely blame BYU fans.Originally posted by DU Ute View PostYes, they're having fun with it over at utefans.net.
This game should be sold out. Even if BYU fans aren't going to buy all the tickets, Utah fans should be able to buy up the excess tickets.
But that brings me to why the fans aren't to blame. The traffic situation this year to get to LES is a complete mess.
Normally, if there were tickets left this late, I'd be heading to the game. However, there is no way that I want to mess with traffic. I get done with my son's game at 5 and, normally, I could make it to Provo from Davis County in 2 and 1/4 hours even on game day. But I really don't think that's possible this year with the I-15 construction.
I think a lot of people are dissuaded by the freeway construction. Maybe I'm projecting. Who knows.

You'd think someone would have pointed out that closing down the Center St. exit during the months of September-November is not a good idea. Doofuses. What I win, I keep. What you win, I keep.

I can't blame them for wanting to avoid the abuse and degradation doled out by fans at LES. I went 2 years ago and vowed I'd never subject myself to it again. Time heals all wounds my friend. You had 2 BCS Bowl wins to help you get over that. The Bradley fumble that wasn't a fumble is still fresh on all of our mindsOriginally posted by LA Ute View Post2010 was the end-of-decade karmic payback for the Luke Staley fumble that wasn't called in 2000 (I think), which allowed BYU to win LaVell's last game. The slate is clean.

I am certain that San Diego has festering open sores over a similar situation, but I doubt you will be as concerned over it.
There is no way I would go to this game because of the traffic situation. I would probably get home after 1 am.

It is due to one simple thing...this years Utah game costs 85-95 bucks face and people don't want to pay it. The admin priced this one a little too high. 65-75 for premium seats would have been right. There are tons of tickets online.Originally posted by Portland Ute View PostI think it's a combo of things and I don't completely blame BYU fans.

There are plenty of tickets for individual ute games this season as well. Both fan bases are experiencing some sticker shock this season.
Why would ute fans be laughing at this? Probably because they are morans. Why don't they drive over and buy the tickets and attend the game to support their team? Because they are also cheapskates, just like BYU fans. Tickets are expensive this season.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Because tonight's crowd will only be 15,000 higher than the largest ever at RES, rather than the customary 20,000?Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostIt is due to one simple thing...this years Utah game costs 85-95 bucks face and people don't want to pay it. Or maybe they are happy that fewer people than expected will see this beat down.

Secondary market, not from the school.Originally posted by Top Ute View PostThere are? Almost everything left over at utahutes.com is single-seat and/or SRO.
My guess is that people bought over the summer expecting to be able to resell at a profit much like BYU fans did today with the ute game. Sticker shock here is real and to be expected. Fans here are not used to paying those prices over the course of a football season.
To give you an idea of gauging market by what is available directly from the school, go try to buy a block of 4 tickets for today's game at byutickets.com Then go check a secondary source.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

I'm also having a hard time getting up for this year's game. In part I think it's because both teams seem pretty mediocre.
BYU barely beat an an Ole Miss team that doesn't seem very good, and got beat by a Texas team that is kind of a mess. BYU's D looks good, but it's hard to tell given the state of disrepair on offense of both teams they've played. BYU's offense hasn't been good at all, but they've played a couple of pretty good defenses and are still breaking in a new OC. They could have a breakout any game now, or they could be bad all year.
Texas-UCLA will be interesting; if Texas beats UCLA soundly it'll make me feel a little bit better about BYU's team.
So, this is an intriguing early-season game, but the rivalry itself is hard to care about much.
