I was wrong, that isn't really funny. In fact not even slightly funny. Should have spent more time on MS Paint making it clear to read. That way it wouldn't be a double fail.Get confident, stupid

It's also very cool when New Zealand and American troops do it together in Afghanistan to build Esprit de Corp.Originally posted by NorthwestUteFan View PostHaka:

I wasn't born yet, but I know that in the 50s the big V-8 engines were a big deal, and Oldsmobile called theirs the "Rocket 8." That Ken Garff ad is part of that campaign and that era.Originally posted by GrizzledVeteran View PostClassic compensation for something or other.

1952 Oldsmobile Super 88
Most popular Old's was this Super 88
as usual the four-doors out sold the two-doors by almost double
they featured the "Rocket 8" big V-8 and even displayed a rocket ship in their ads
Cost: $2,589.00
I don't think BYU had any advertising for its football program at that time, except maybe in The Improvement Era, which did carry advertisements for church-owned companies.“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”

Very fascinating, from a fanbase that supports a team with feathers on its helmets.Originally posted by YOhio View PostThis lesson on cultural sensitivity from the Runnin' Kiyi's has been fascinating.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

No, it is cool because he had Poly teammates that he was doing this for.Originally posted by Eddie View PostWait - help me understand.
So this photo is cool because it shows a non-Poly getting upset about some lame (your words) dance a bunch of non-Poly's did prior to a game that is apparently an affront to him because it is a call out to battle for Poly's?

Anyone associated with the Utah program has no room to call anyone else a racist. Is there anything more offensive than using a tribe as a mascot? It's unbelievable the PAC-12 didn't require them to change it.Just try it once. One beer or one cigarette or one porno movie won't hurt. - Dallin H. Oaks

You are aware that the Ute tribe has given the university its permission, right? The NCAA, when informed of this fact, backed off on forcing Utah to change its mascot.Originally posted by BlueHair View PostAnyone associated with the Utah program has no room to call anyone else a racist. Don't feed the troll, FT. He knows all that.Originally posted by Flattop View PostYou are aware that the Ute tribe has given the university its permission, right? The NCAA, when informed of this fact, backed off on forcing Utah to change its mascot.
Oddly, back in 1968 when BYU got heat for the church's priesthood ban (black athletes were not amused), BYU fans started wearing red armbands to protest the horrible treatment Native Americans had gotten from the U.S. government. Despite their concern for Native Americans, Cougar fans never uttered a word about the Utah nickname, which was then still the Redskins. Again, odd.

(The nickname changed in 1971, when the agreement with the Ute nation began.)“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”

Looks like we have 4 theories so far:Originally posted by Flattop View PostNo, it is cool because he had Poly teammates that he was doing this for.
Recall that this was the year after some Oregon players got upset in Vegas about BYU doing the Haka.
1) He was making a statement for true diversity, with the subtle subtext of protesting racism in the LDS church
2) He was showing his allegiance to his Mountain West Conference
3) He was defending his Poly teammates who I guess couldn't be bothered themselves to do anything
4) He was demenstruating
I'm going with Eddie's theory. At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I hate to say it but that doesn't make it right.
