What is the worst loss you've suffered as a fan?

I passed out, taking my Christmas tree with me. Literally. We jumped up in unison, I and 5 other guys had a very heterosexual hug, I felt dizzy, and woke up 2 min later on my face 20 feet from the scrum. The headache, the bump on the noggin', the bloody nose...they were all worth it.

My memory had faded too, so I looked it up (a painful experience in itself). Here's what Wikipedia says:

Reggie's lateral is what kills me. The boys had a 12 point lead in the 4th, they didn't close the door.

Up until that point, Sipi Jr (sig pic) had never seen USC lose a game; he was four years old. Sipi Jr cried from the final whistle until we met his uncles after the game, seeing him in that state got them started, which got him going again. I'm not much for sentiment, but I knew something special ended that night.

Early in life I was, somewhat inexplicably, a Dallas Cowboys fan. This was especially odd since I'm a NoCal native - but I hated the Niners with fury and loved the Cowboys. I think it had to do with my Dad telling me at a young age that "Tom Landry is the classiest guy in the NFL" - (in retrospect I'm pretty sure it was the hat that convinced him of that). And back to back class act QBs in Staubach and White helped me buy in. Plus, White was LDS, which trumped everything else.

So when "the Catch" happened in the NFC title game when I was 5 I remember running out of the room and then out of the house and into the forest near my parents place and then sobbing. Yes sobbing.

[Nota bene - the universe later came into alignment when I recognized that (a) there's a culture war bt Cali and Texas and my Cowboy thing was putting me on the wrong side and (b) Steve Young came to town (c) Jerry Jones stole the Cowboys and proved to actually be the physical manifestation of the asshole of the universe and proceeded to sign every blow and smack junkie who would get on a flight to Dallas and completely explode the Cowboys culture - and I am now a devout Niner fan (though I truly, intensely, dislike Joe Montana).

The C's Game 7 to the Lakers in 2010. SUCKED. If Ray Allen just hits one effing three out of like 13 that he launched the game changes. Perk being out obviously didn't help either.

A few people have cited BYU-UTEP 85 but I think there are two more painful losses from 1985 - a year where we were just as good as we were in 1984 but didn't get the timely/lucky breaks to stay undefeated - quite the opposite. The home loss to UCLA that ended our 25 (?) game win streak blew like no other. Bullshit PI call handed UCLA 50 yards and set up the winning TD. And the loss in the Florida Citrus Bowl to Ohio State killed me - 10-7. We turned the ball over 3x in the red zone, once with a Vai fumble on the goal line.

That EASILY cld have been another undefeated year. Oh well.

1) the Blues losing in the 1996 conference quarterfinals to the Red Wings. That was the best St Louis team I'll probably ever see, and they lost in overtime of Game 7 to Steve fucking Yzerman.

2) 1998 tournament final. Utah crushed Arizona, put together a magical performance against a loaded UNC, and led at halftime against Kentucky. If Majerus had given MacTavish just five minutes...
