Hey, I shared an admittedly embarrasing situation that surrounded a fantastic win, doesn't that count for something Mr Stubing?

In fact, they were one strike away twice. There was a lot more that went wrong at that point than just Buckner's error. First, a wild pitch to tie the score, then a missed pick-off opportunity that would have ended the game. Then the Buckner error. It was the most crushing defeat I've ever experienced.

I've always felt bad for Buckner. He won the batting crown in 1980, was an All-Star, and had over 2,700 hits. But he'll always be remembered for that error, even if he wasn't the only one who cause the Red Sox to lost that game.

Beck to Harline was pretty bad too.
Everyone remembers Buckner, but nobody remembers that Boggs is to blame for the loss. Before the Buckner error, Boggs dogged it big time and it cost the Sox the series.

Mitchell was on 1st and Carter was on 2nd. Knight hit a dribbler down the 3rd baseline that ended up going foul, because Boggs was too damn lazy to pick it up inside the line and run 15 feet to 3rd for the out. Boggs moved up and followed the ball, watching it go foul. All he had to do was pick it up and he could have easily beaten Carter to the bag, because Carter never did run well.

Boggs cost Boston the blame, but Boggs gets the blame. It ain't right.

I'm going with the Bartman game. 5 fing outs till the first world series since 1945. Other than the fact that Moises Alou acted like a 5 year old about a ball he probably wouldnt have caught people have forgotten two way bigger things.

              1. Alex Gonzalez botches an easy inning ending 6-4-3 double play.
              2. Dusty Baker the worst fing manager to ever manage sits in the fing dugout chews his stupid fing toothpick after the botched play. Hey dusty your star pitcher just watched two crazy things happen how about you get off your ass and do what good managers do and calm him down.

At the risk of incurring the wrath of Gus, I'll share mine that is less than 10 years old.

2001 - Nebraska 36 Colorado 62. My Big 12 championship tickets arrived in the mail the morning of the game. I had them on the couch next to me for good luck. Instead of good luck, they apparently made Nebraska's linebackers forget how to play the run. I have never seen so many runners break through a hole in the middle of the line and not have a defender touch them again until 50 yards downfield. Actually, no one really "broke" through the DL...they were waltzing through 6 foot wide gaping holes the entire game. It was like a parallel universe. I don't ever remember seeing a Nebraska defense get so abused by a power running game. And we had a pretty good defense that year.

I was able to sell my Big 12 tickets to some Texas fan on ebay for a nice profit, but the loss stung when I thought about it for several years...mostly because it was the start of slide into medicrity compounded by a horrible coaching hire that we are just now coming out of.

Edit: The performance was embarassing enough. The fact that Colorado were the ones abusing us so made it unbearable.

I was in the MTC and missed the series but a lunch lady from Minnesota gave me daily updates. I got the news of my Twins victory on the day I shipped out for Spain. What a great plane ride!

That game was awful. Easily makes my list of the worst losses I have witnessed. I am a Nebraska fan as well and that game was on my birthday. My Dad went and bought a nice new 27" TV that morning to watch the game on. Those 6 foot wide gaping holes looked really nice on that new TV (note, this was the largest TV our family owned prior to last year. It was a big deal...and to christen it with such a forgettable performance was an insult to Samsung).

I'd love to watch an independent BYU play Nebraska at Lavell Edwards Stadium. Perhaps they're hoping for the same.
