2001 - Nebraska 36 Colorado 62.

2001 - Nebraska 36 Colorado 62. My Big 12 championship tickets arrived in the mail the morning of the game. I had them on the couch next to me for good luck. Instead of good luck, they apparently made Nebraska's linebackers forget how to play the run. I have never seen so many runners break through a hole in the middle of the line and not have a defender touch them again until 50 yards downfield. Actually, no one really "broke" through the DL...they were waltzing through 6 foot wide gaping holes the entire game. It was like a parallel universe. I don't ever remember seeing a Nebraska defense get so abused by a power running game. And we had a pretty good defense that year.

I was able to sell my Big 12 tickets to some Texas fan on ebay for a nice profit, but the loss stung when I thought about it for several years...mostly because it was the start of slide into medicrity compounded by a horrible coaching hire that we are just now coming out of.

Edit: The performance was embarassing enough. The fact that Colorado were the ones abusing us so made it unbearable.

While 62-36 really stung at the time, I quickly got over it. Nebraska still played Miami in the Rose Bowl for the national championship and got beat by a great Miami team. It reminded me of 1987 when top ranked Nebraska lost to OU. It wouldn't have mattered because the Canes would have thumped the Huskers in the Orange Bowl.

But the abuse the Blackshirts took that day was embarassing. And I knew the end was near for the DC (who I knew and played for in HS).

What's up with the sudden proliferation of Nebraska fans on this site?

I know I'm not alone being a Nebraska fan and BYU alum, but the sudden proliferation of fellow Husker fans is surprising.

I knew Marvelous was my cousin when I read his response to my post (unless some other guy bought a new TV for his son who is a BYU and Nebraska fan to watch the 2001 Nebraska/Colorado game on his birthday). We've both lurked for a while. Just happened to start posting about the same time.

I'm a BYU alumnus, grew up in Omaha.

This is not a close call. Utah loses to Miami OH in round 2 in the 1999 NCAA playoffs. I think there was a time late in that season when that team was better than 1998 at its best. Most painful Ute loss ever in any sport; the one that still hurts a lot.

Lots of tough losses. The one that hit me hardest and still stings is BYU Florida in the Sweet 16.

I know we didn't have Davies (which if we did would probably make it worse), but it still hurt really bad.

Watching Jimmer leave the court it all sank in...I would never see a player quite like him and probably never see a team quite like that.

A month prior my expectations were sky high. Oh well.

I was in the MTC and missed the series but a lunch lady from Minnesota gave me daily updates. I got the news of my Twins victory on the day I shipped out for Spain. What a great plane ride!

Knoblauch fakes the cutoff, Smith gets fooled, stumbling at the sight of a fake cutoff, and only makes it to third. I can still see it. Knoblauch deserved the damned MVP for that perfect fake.

49ers v. Giants in the NFC Championship game in 1991. Eff you Jim Leonard for taking out Montana's elbow and costing them a three-peat. Also, eff you Roger Craig for fumbling.

I think I cried for 45 minutes after that game. On the plus side, it allowed Steve Young to step into the starting role.

The other was BYU v Utah in 2005. That loss stung for me since I was on my mission in 2000 and 2001 and hadn't seen a victory for BYU against Utah in my time on campus, and the last time the Y beat the U was when Ryan Kanishero snatched defeat from the grasp of victory. I remember walking back to the football office from the stadium absolutely enraged. I know I dropped a few f-bombs. BYU had no business losing that game.

Game 6 2003 NLCS Cubs vs Marlins.

I was watching a game not too long ago where the home crowd basically did the same thing that happened to Moises Alou and prevented their left fielder from catching a foul ball that was landing just in the stands. The memories came flooding back in a hot rage. DAMN YOU STEVE BARTMAN!
