"When we do 850 events next year," said Pac-12 Enterprises president Gary Stevenson, "there are going to be ... so many individuals that are going to be fascinated with what’s on the air because of their deep passion for this conference. And that’s really what drives it."
We won’t see a programming grid until at least mid-June, but Stevenson and Lydia Murphy-Stephans, executive vice president and general manager of Pac-12 Networks, made it clear the schedule will be built on live sporting events, not studio shows.
"Our plan in our first year is to do 850 live events, so we will be a very events-centric network," Murphy-Stephans said. She didn’t rule out adding a flagship studio show at some point, "but we’re not planning it for Year 1."Comment

Given that the early weeks of the season contain a large amount of cotton-candy opponents, that isn't as compelling as it might sound. Still, if one of those weeks was, say, Sept. 22, the network would do no worse than have a game pitting Cal and USC, or Arizona-Oregon or Utah-Arizona State. It also means that if USC happens to reach the No. 1 spot in the polls — and it won't start very far away — Pac-12 Networks may be showing its game.Comment

Sports will be even more important to television due to the Ad money they can generate from it. People don't tivo sports like they do other programs. Last week, Pac-12 Enterprises announced that InDemand will team with Comcast Media Center to provide an array of technical support, including expansive TV Everywhere and video-on-demand plans for Pac-12 Networks coming out of the gate. It also inked a deal with Ooyala to develop the Pac-12 Digital Network.
Relative to TV Everywhere, InDemand president Bob Benya said there would be no staging of platform rollouts, that Pac-12 Networks from the outset would be "all in" on computers, tablets, connected TVs and smartphones whether on Apple or Android-based operating systems.
"No question it's ambitious," noted Stevenson. "We do expect a few bumps in the road, but it's important to make our services available to subscribers on all platforms.
Working with Ooyala, the Pac-12 Digital Network will enable subscribers of Pac-12 Network distributors to watch live content on connected devices via TV Everywhere authentication, when the services bow Aug. 15.
