Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats.

I am not comfortable with BYU being paired with Army as the only independent school in 2015. It is just not good company to be in (sorry goat). 100k in playoff money for Army and BYU? Not good. Couple that with no access to a playoff or even a decent bowl = disaster. BYU has literally nothing to play for other than their pride. Fan interest is already at an all time low. What do you think it will be in 2015?
Oh yeah I forgot...ESPN contract baby!! I wish I could wipe my ass with that contract.

Yup.
I'm sure Tom has the phone ringing off the hook, from every team in the PAC12 to every team in the ACC asking for 2/1 deals.

I think fan interest is at an all time low because the team has under-performed, a coach who has made extremely perplexing personnel decisions and has terrible PR skills, and because of unrealistic expectations from the fan-base. If BYU was still in the MWC those elements would still exist. Its not like this team would perform any better being in the MWC. I would love for BYU to be in a good conference. But I do like independence as an alternative to not being in the PAC or Big-12. Lets not kid ourselves, BYU will rarely be the highest ranked non-BCS team if it joins the group of lesser conferences. THey will rarely be in the discussion for a national championship. Who cares if the last exhibition (read bowl game) of the season isn't a BCS bowl. The regular season with at least 4 or 5 great teams far outweigh the chance that once every ten years BYU is the highest ranked group of five team.

Rarely? It should happen regularly. BYU has the best facilities, strongest built-in recruiting base, and largest fan base of any team outside the big 4 conferences (as well as 1/2 the teams inside the big 4). One bad QB decision and suddenly we can't finish in front of Boise, Cincinnati, and Northern Illinois on a regular basis?
Stick with independence and finish ahead of a few auto-access teams on a regular basis, then our access will improve as well.

Independence is better than those shitstorm conferences, plus when the other conferences expand again, they'll just raid those conferences. If we can get football higher than 5th priority and start winning again, access will come.

I agree. Winning will make everything better. But as far as your first point, there is a difference between should and will. When was the last time BYU achieved more than Boise? Hell, even Cincinnati? I don't know if it comes down to coaching or if its an institutional problem, but we haven't over achieved in a long time.

We rarely beat teams we aren't favored against. A great coach will win some of those games. I don't think it's asking too much to happen more often than it has.
This year we were favored against SJSU, OSU, and Utah, and lost.
We were not favored against Boise and Notre Dame, and we played admirably in those games, but lost.
The rest of our wins we were favored by a bit, iirc.
I'd like to see us win games where we're not favored a little more frequently. I get if you're not favored you're usually playing a good team, so you won't win them all, but occasionally would be nice.

Boom! I love it when you call people out on their nonsense. The_Douger needed that correction.
seems a little unfair; it wasn't a correction for correction's sake. If one is a complaining about BYU's ability to win when not favored it seems reasonable to give BYU credit for the times they actually won when not favored (and include it in the set of games with with close ex ante expected MOVs).
So you don't think that consistently winning will bring access? It seemed to work for BSU, Utah, TCU, Hawaii, and now NIU. Add Louisville being invited to the Big East from cusa and I think that is more than nothing.

Did those teams win when they were part of a conference that had access afforded to them according to the bcs rules?
