"Sure, I fought. I had to fight all my life just to survive. They were all against me. Tried every dirty trick to cut me down, but I beat the bastards and left them in the ditch."
Interesting. I wonder why Gonzaga would want that though. In most seasons they're going to be the #1 team in the WCC and at worst #3. The WCC is a 2-3 team tournament league. They consistently play a nice OCC schedule giving them plenty of RPI and SOS bumps. Would the money in a Big East/A-10 conference be worth the travel? Especially now with Cuse, Pitt and WVU gone.

Why does this logic not apply to B12 basketball?
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Because we're more than just a basketball school unlike Gonzaga.
Obviously.
But there were plenty griping about WCC basketball last year, just on its own. I doubt we make the tourney last year in the B12 (or the MWC, for that matter).

I don't see why that matters, but I am not sure I agree anyway. I think BYU would have beaten out CSU for the 4th seed in the MWC because I believe BYU would have beat them head to head. And they could have slid in the Big 12 also based on some wins at the MC boosting their RPI.

Sure, it's debatable, and like you say, doesn't matter that much.
My defense of the WCC for basketball (and really, we're basketball-only too as far as this discussion goes--B12 for all sports is a no-brainer if we have the option) centers around the same thing you said about Gonzaga basketball--we're easily in the top 3 of a 2-3 bid league every year. That's not a bad position, and one that we may miss (a little--playing Kansas every year would more than make up for it) if we ever get to not being the big fish in a small pond.

Say hello to SDSU, Boise State, Houston in the MWC.
From the article...
Brey also said the discussion among the Catholic schools was to make it a national Catholic conference with Xavier, Saint Louis, Dayton, Creighton, Gonzaga and possibly Saint Mary's as well.
This makes a little more sense than Gonzaga just joining the 7 BE basketball schools. It's still a hell of a lot of travel for the Bulldogs (and Gaels).
