That would make sense, which means that probably isn't BYU's actual negotiating position.
I think, perhaps, the only person who hates BYU fans more than ute fans hate BYU fans, is Bronco Mendenhall.

BYU is run by a bunch of dunderheads that can't be intelligent with this conference alignment shit. Perhaps if they pulled their heads out of their collective asses, they could make a deal that would be in the best interest of the fans and the quality of competition. All this exposure talk is a steaming pile of shit when you consider that exposure in the Big East would be significant. With games broadcasting with local interest to areas that are traditionally mormon sparse, the exposure would be huge for the mormon missionary effort that they all claim to be the #1 purpose for BYU football. So stupid.

Since I was mentioned, I'll respond. I'm staying away from the stadium because the constant negative vibe just wears on me. BYU football is important to me, and I don't need to be around the constant criticism and complaining.

I used to think that my participation could help people here, but I've decided that this is a just place for people who are on their way out. They've made up their minds that they're no longer BYU fans, and they want to be around people who think like they do so they can feel better about their decision. I'm not judging them, and if the stadium can somehow bring peace to their lives, then good for them. As for me, however, I'll be spending less time here.

It seems every time I come here and click on a thread title (not many, I assure you), there are comments about folks no longer wanting to participate in forum "x" due to the tenor of the posts in that forum.

I will withhold further comment about what that says about the "community."

So glad the BYU higher-ups do not cater to folks like this.

As a football fan, I think 2 is non-negotiable. However, I suspect that as a church leadership, 1 is the non-negotiable item. There are far more church members who are vaguely interested in BYU football and who pay tithing to support the university than there are die-hards who know the intricacies of the BCS. BYU will get the same attendance at a BYU @ Rutgers game whether they're 3-6 or 9-0. The majority of these fans are interested in BYU by association but don't know or care much about how well BYU is doing or if they're in the BCS--they're just excited to see their team come visit. That's who the church leadership is interested in satisfying with their BYUTV fixation. It sucks for me as a football fan, but is probably is a net benefit to everyone else.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Apparently unable to negotiate a deal with ESPN that would allow them to cleanly join a BCS conference when the invite presented itself.

Unfortunately, I have not been impressed with Tom and the boys.

I don't pretend they do. I'm sure they, and a lot of people around here, would rather folks like me just go away. I'm here to stay though, I always have been and probably always will be a huge BYU football fan. Leaving the religion didn't take it out of me, displeasure from fans won't either.
