      Big East Bowl Tie ins
#1 Bowl Championship Series. The Big East Champion receives an automatic bid to one of the BCS Bowls with an At-Large bid. Most likely Bowl for the conference winner in bold
January 2013 games: Fiesta, Sugar, Orange
January 2014 games: Orange, Sugar, Fiesta

#2 The Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando on Dec 29th v ACC #3.

#3 The Belk Bowl in Charlotte Dec 27th v ACC #5

#4 The New Era Pinstripe Bowl Yankee Stadium Dec 30th v Big 12 #7

#5 BBVA Compass Bowl / AutoZone Liberty Bowl Memphis Dec 31st. The #5 selection from the Big East will face either the #8 or 9 team (shared pick) from the SEC in the BBVA Compass Bowl or the C-USA champion in the Liberty Bowl.

      #6 The Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl St. Petersberg FL Dec 20th v. CUSA #5

Note that bowls #2-6 may select Notre Dame in lieu of a Big East school; however, the Champs Sports bowl may only due so once during a four-year period from the 2010 to 2013 seasons (it has yet to do so).

with 13 teams (ND) the BEASt would probably get 2 more bowl tie ins and they would probably be out west. My guess is they would try for the Armed Forces, Poinsettia and Fight hunger bowls

We are not going to get same-year home/away games with the major BEast Bball teams. That's just not realistic. But if we got consecutive year H/A with a few of the traditional powerhouses, that would be a pretty sweet deal. But I'm not even holding my breath for that. Even 2-3 total games a year would be a major upgrade and no real burden on those teams to travel to Provo more than once every 5 years.

Yes, so does Memphis I think. Helps these big programs in crappy conferences stay relevant.

Sooo.. Outside of the BCS, BYU has the possibility of playing against: ACC, ACC, CUSA, Big 12, SEC.

And if we stay Indy we have CUSA opponent in Armed Forces Bowl....

But joining the BE is worse then remaining Indy

I like the BE for one reason above all others: it makes BYU a "BCS team". Yes, that's sort of a meaningless concept, but in practice it seems to make a big difference. Even if the BE is unstable, if BYU can have some success in an AQ conference, or at least demonstrate that they're average, then they'll be one of the big boys relative to all the mid-majors.

We all know that a great number of BCS teams are actually mediocre and will never make noise on the national level, but they are also unlikely to be left out of the next reorganization, which seems sure to happen soon. Maybe if they have a good season or two in the BE, the Big12 will take another look when they move back to 12 teams. If superconferences happen and all the big conferences feel the need to set aside some of their criteria to get to 16, maybe the Pac would take another look. It just seems like it'll be a lot easier to stay in the picture without the built-in marginalization of being a non-BCS program.

                The New Era bowl?

Those bowl tie-ins that the Big East currently has will change with the new teams. I bet the bowl games in Memphis and Charlotte will be replaced because there's no real close team, and I doubt the BBVA Compass Bowl will be back (Nothing against Alabama, but who wants to go to Alabama for a bowl game?) Bowl tie-ins change all the time in flux of changing teams. No reason to go to Charlotte or Memphis.

I'm willing to bet that the Houston Bowl or Ticket City (the one on January 1st at the actual Cotton Bowl Stadium) or Armed Forces Bowl in Dallas will have an affiliation with the Big East because of the new Texas teams, maybe the Las Vegas Bowl could be a Big East bowl site due to the western presence. Big East vs. PAC-12 so we could see a BYU vs. Utah rematch in Vegas.

Those comparing the B-East west to the Pac 12 south are laughable.

Of course ASU--BYU is a tossup considering that BYU got blown out by the team place below ASU.

As for bowl games, having pretty good authority on the subject having laid on my backside last year watching most of the Bowl games I can honestly say outiside of the BCS bowls, bowl games are worthless and boring. I very much regret choosing Bowl games over March madness for the procedure.

I've already been other the topic of how unlikely it is that the B-East will maintain its AQ status.

Why? The new Big East has stronger teams than the current one right now. Much better shot of renewing the bid with these new teams than the shitty teams they have now. The BCS will either drop the whole "AQ conference" thing and take a certain number of teams in the BCS rankings, or they let the Big East keep that 6th AQ bid. I haven't seen any actual credible reports that have said the BCS can just drop a 6th conference with the way they are structured.

I haven't seen anything by ESPN, but a few newspaper articles that I looked up Google, have said that if they lose the bid after 2013, they still have a 2 year grace period of still being AQ until it's dropped.

I love bowl season, yeah there's a bunch of pointless ones, but those games are like mini-"championships" to small schools. I love the atmosphere. It gives everyone something to look forward to.

I don't think it is a horrible recipe (except for joining the B-East, of course). It worked out for TCU after being a conference vagabond forever.

If the Big East deal gets us some OOC scheduling for hoops it sounds a bit better than independence but still sucky. I don't mind playing BSU, SMU, Houston and Louisville. That would be a decent division compared to our current crap.

Yes, and much worse than during the last evaluation period.

The whole point in the B-East moves is to try to save the AQ football status. I don't see stock pilings have-nots doing it....not that they have any other choice.
