KU and UL in the same league is a pretty good thing. Big East took a hit in hoops with Syracuse, Pitt and probably WVU leaving. ACC might make a case for the best hoops conference now. The Big East is better than the Big 12 in hoops, but not by THAT much and even for a school like Louisville football brings in more money to the school. The silver lining is that it's still a good basketball conference, though losing Syracuse, Pitt and WVU means you've lost three of your top 7 basketball schools. You still have UConn, Louisville, Georgetown, Villanova, Cincy and a resurgent St. Johns is still a really good core. The problem is that BYU would be relegated to the uber-shitty western part of the conference, so it's not like BYU would be playing the powerhouse east coast teams twice a year.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”Comment
