Instead of a guard dog people should just put a picture of Bronco pissed off on their door. No one would ever rob you.

Yes we can. The beauty is that we'll both ignore the other and stand our own ground. That's waht makes this country great!Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

Totally agree.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostI feel like we are over reacting a bit to the offense. They were bad in the first half but looked fine in the 2nd. Here are all our 2nd half drives.
8 plays 67 yards
10 plays 66 yards
8 plays 72 yards
6 plays 21 yards
1 play -2 yards (just the kneel at the end)
There was just some untimely miscues that need to be ironed out, but it's not like they were totally inept moving the ball or anything. And, really, the first half is to be expected with a brand new oc and a freshman getting a bunch reps at wideout. They'll be fine as everyone continues to get on the same page.
Doman made some nice adjustments--that TD drive was a thing of beauty--but I thought he even did a nice job the first half. Heaps was a different quarterback the second half and that was the difference.
One play call I wish I would have seen: play action pass on 4th and 1 at the end of the game. They were biting on it all day. You throw it incomplete and the clock stops, but the clock was stopping anyway with the change of possession. At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I know I was pretty nit-picky about Anae's playcalling so I'd be interested to know what you guys thought was so bad about Doman's calls today (other than the end-of-half short throws).
I thought he did a pretty goodjob, and I love that he incorporates some constraint plays, which is something Anae wasn't very good at (read: basically refused to do).

Initial thoughts:
Heaps - I'm not as down on him as some are. The pix 6 hurt, but he made the right read, he just threw it a bit late. His stats were decent, and the offense moved the ball with some consistency between the 20s. Obviously, he's got to get better by next saturday, but I have faith in Heaps.C
RBs - Kariya played the best (missed two blitzes though), JJ is who we thought he was, Juice was hurt. B
TEs - Holt and Wilson were active particpiants this year, not corpses like last year. B-
WRs - Sparingly used, but Apo came through when it mattered. Falslev, McKay, and Hoffman all had clutch catches extending drives. Obviously Ole Miss was trying to take these guys out of the equation.B-
O Line - Played well for the most part. Several shotgun snaps were sketchy. B
Offensive coaches - It looked like Doman's first game. We got the win, which is what matters most. I liked the bootlegs and playaction that Doman incorporated. I didn't like the lack of execution in the 1st half. I was concerned that BYU didn't pick up the tempo in the early 4th quarter, very nonchalant, but Van Noy saved their bacon. C
D Line - Did their jobs really well. Nice rotation of players, who did a good job neutralizing Ole Missus large line. A-
LBs - Pendleton, KVN, and Kavienga played great. Hadley, Tree, and even Wagner were also solid. This unit won the game. A
DBs - Not much of a test from a raw Rebel passing game, and they struggled a bit. Decent in run support though. Tough to say how good they were because they were not really tested too much. Saved by Ole Miss dropping a TD, where was the safety on that play? C+
D Coaches - Great game by Bronco and company. Did not manufacture much pressure on QBs until the second half. Solid gameplan limiting Ole Miss run game. B+
Special Teams - Mixed bag. A few nice returns by Falslev. Missed a FG and gave up a 45 yard return. C+
Bottom line: BYU won, which is all that matters. Needs to improve in most areas to beat texas next week, but maybe this was just a first game rust thing. 1-0"Sure, I fought. I had to fight all my life just to survive. They were all against me. Tried every dirty trick to cut me down, but I beat the bastards and left them in the ditch."

Hah hah funny Utes - people are actually calling "luck" in this thing?
BYU 20 - 13 on first downs
BYU 306 - 203 on total yards
BYU 34:37 - 25:23 on possession
Ole Miss got more than half its points on a pick 6 on which fully four BYU players whiffed tackles and BYU repeatedly shot itself in the foot in Ole Miss territory.
The luck equation goes 70-30 in Ole Miss's favor for this game.Ute-ī sunt fīmī differtī

Well, that was better than a kick in the nuts.
Were Ol' miss's corners really good? I never can tell bc they're rarely in the shot.

Tooblue would disagree but I thought it was a case of early scripted plays, some of which didn't go to plan, a new OC, a new season, somewhat intimidating environment, and jitters. I can't imagine the adrenaline for both Doman and Heaps.Originally posted by woot View PostI know I was pretty nit-picky about Anae's playcalling so I'd be interested to know what you guys thought was so bad about Doman's calls today (other than the end-of-half short throws).

I thought much like Wynn, Jake seemed to check down a lot early, but fortunately he has the arm strength to execute tough throws and proved it."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

Not sure how you make this calculation. JJ was crucial, Kariya was... who we thought he was. JJ led the team in passes caught and rushing yards and had a solid 4.7 YPC. Kariya averaged 3.2 YPC and whiffed some key blocks. I appreciate what BK does but I'm not sure how you don't give JJ more props.Originally posted by San Juan Sun View PostInitial thoughts:

Sucks that just like with Bradford we knocked out posibly their best player for multiple games most likely.
