Yeah, I don't see that being a major obstacle. You can buy a lot of friends for 100K.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Well, his youngest is a girl.

Get used to it Cougar Nation. Whit is here for as long as he wants to be. And YOhio, this is as obsessive as you want it to be.

In economics profession they call it a backward bending salary curve. IE once you reach a certain amount of salary the drive to get more $$$ isn't as strong as other factors. If kyle really wanted the "BCS" title he would wait till Arizona or Arizona st or another pac 10 college became open (which they will) and move there.

Kyle makes 1 million a year. making 1.5 million more a year doesnt change his lifestyle all that much.

I don't really want to defend this point that much because I don't think KW is going anywhere and I also think if Tech is dumb enough to fire Leach that they are going to have a hard time replacing him with a good coach. What coach is going to want to go to a place that just fired the best coach they have ever had?

But according to Utahsright.com KW makes $965k, according to this article, http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/htm...94_digs18.html Leach is set to make $2.65 and $2.35 in his final two year of the contract he would be fired from.

$965k to $2.5 million is not comparable to $1 mil to $1.5 mil. So while not an economist by any means I do not believe the backward bending salary curve applies here.

think about if you were making 1 million in your current job and someone asks you to come down to some shit hole in texas for 2.5 million do you go just because its 1.5 million more? you obviously listen but if you are making a million an extra 1.5 million doesn't change your lifestyle that much. Like I said if kyle really wanted a larger stage where you could win the bcs title etc... just wait until Ariz or Ariz st are open as they are close to where you live now and have opportunity just like the TT

This is really a poor argument, the bottom line is that money talks. Tucson is not that much nicer than Lubbock.

Leach was offered 5 years at 12.75 million. Thats 2.55 per year, Kyle can afford to keep his lifestyle up here until his daughter graduates and still go down there. We are not talking about a difference between 15 million and 20 million. The difference between 1 million and 2 million is huge.

Plus to say Arizona is the same as Texas Tech isn't really accurate. The P10 has a hard time getting USC into the championship game, Arizona must be undefeated to go to the BCS champ game, I don't think that is true for Texas Tech.

How much does your life change from 1 million a year to 2 million a year? PAC, Creekster, SeattleUte please weigh in here.

Can you now afford that house you've always on wanted? maybe you want that corvette. I'm pretty sure your life isnt that changed from 1 million to 2 million. You are richer for sure but you were already rich to begin with.

Additionally, the one thing you are all discounting is if he gets offered 2.5 million to TT Utah would certainly counter offer something. btw.. he makes 1.2 million a year as of Dec 29, 2008

Lets see... being 4th or 5th best option in your division is not the way to the BCS games.

Arizona just has to beat USC.

TT has to beat, Texas, Oklahoma, TAMU and OKST (baylor's a gimme). Not to mention kyle was offered the baylor job several years ago.

The Big 12 has proven you don't even have to win your conference to get a shot at the title.

No, but winning your division is helpful. Tech has never finished better than third.

If offered, Whitey would be fool to pass up TT and triple the money to stay at Utah. Or just afraid.
                          Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I don't care what Whit does. He's perfectly entitled to pursue his career, and frankly, if I were him, I'm not sure I'd stay at Utah. But coaching is a tough, fragile, circumstantial business. His mojo may not work as well somewhere else. See Mike Price; the last two coaches at Colorado. We've gotten more than we bargained for from him.

People turn down higher paying jobs all the time for reasons other than because they are "afraid." You should know that. Whit has already shown he's got more guts than anyone in the state of Utah. Staying at Utah he gave himself no room for anything other than what he's achieved.

I think he should hold out for a job like Texas or USC, not a place like Texas Tech permanently consigned to second tier in a BCS conference whoever coaches there (see Bob Knight's experience). He's good enough and has the resume to do what Urban did.
