  • Chow's a great hire. KW has it exactly right. So does the doctor.

Utah's strategy is to become the new BYU. Steal our coaches, style, recruits, fans. BYU has no way to fight this.

    • If Norm's past history is gauged, Utah will not get a hometown discount.
You're probably looking @ 500K+ and him commuting between MB & SLC.

Recruiting isn't Norm's fave, but he will do it. My brother &
Deuce Lutui ended up @ SC due to Norm's non recruiting skills.

SC's offense has never been the same since he left. The talk of anyone could call plays with all the talent is ignorant.
Hopefully, Norm has enough motivation to coach. Tim Davis is a great hire; he's not the most technical coach, but he can motivate an OL like no other. A good get for Utah if both coaches sign up!

We are just reclaiming Chow. He is a Ute.

Chow is a fantastic hire for the Utes. I mean that will all sincerity. He is a fantastic play caller and developer of quarterbacks. This is something that the Utes need and he will do well there. If I were a Ute fan I would be excited.
I agree with this. KW will be smart and not send him into the living rooms of recruits. If all Chow has to focus on is the development of players in HIS offense, Utah is taking a major step forward. If he is needed to play nice and develop A-Rod and others on the staff, go out and aggressively recruit and run a form of the spread.....well, this will not end well. I think KW will give Chow full control. A-Rod will be needed now more than ever to help with the recruiting and if he's smart, he'll soak up everything he can from Chow. Seems like a potentially great situation for Utah with very little risk.

This is the key to me. We have been rudderless on offense since Meyer left. We have had good players that have used their skills to get the job done, but lack a system that will direct the type of player we will pursue in recruiting, direct how those players will be developed, etc. We cannot survive on "finding the best athlete" entering the Pac-12. It worked in the MWC because of the huge disparity of athleticism among the teams. The disparity in the PAC is much less. There will still be haves and have nots, but the have nots still have more than what we faced in the MWC week in and week out.

Briana could benefit from his mentorship as well. Just listen, do what he says, stay out of his way, and take notes.

That is why we used an 11 foot pole

                      This.

By all accounts, A-Rod, BJ, and Scally are phenomenal recruiters. Let them throw the pitch. Let Chow focus on getting the offense straightened out.

i always heard it's not the size of your pole, it's how you use it.

He really did suck as offensive coordinator for USC leading them to those national titles and such.

True, he was so bad, he had to leave for the NFL.

yeah you're right, it had nothing to do with coaching a team that had 13 future nfl draftees. it's also weird that it didn't even buy him two years from carroll before kiffin took his office.

                              • Why are BYU fans so down on NoCho? Where is the loyalty? Do you also want Sarkisian to fail in his career? Did you boo him when UW came to the stadium last season?

Who would you rather have as OC...Norm or Doman? I wonder who Jake would rather have as OC?

If Whit can bring in the right talent, Norm will really help Utah out, I believe (not necessarily in season 1, of course...these things take time).

One thing that Norm really has going for him this time....while Whit is definitely a talented HC, he does not have the gravitas to boss Norm around. Norm has been an institution in the state of Utah for decades. Whit just came on the scene. I think Whit would be smart to back off and let Norm run his own show. Norm and Pete butted heads frequently and ultimately, Norm was the odd man out. Pete was the King of LA, what could Norm do? Same when he was at BYU under LaVell. And, to a large extent, Bruin fans view Hermie the same way...he is one of their own, Norm is the outsider.

Finally, Norm is no longer an outsider and he is coaching alongside a coach that does not completely overshadow him in his own backyard. Let's see what he can do. I think he will do well.

I do think the SC comparisons may be a bit premature. When Utah has a roster that looked like the one that Norm had when he was at SC, then maybe.
                                Fitter. Happier. More Productive.
