I am not an attorney but we are 3 years removed. There are plenty of attorney's that could answer that for us.

Although, that kick in the nuts made an impact on the Utes and in the end you could argue made a positive impact on the program.

    • The thing that pissed me off about Crowton was his teams seemed to get worse as the season went on. Jake Heaps and the 2010 BYU team went the opposite direction. They got a lot better the later the season went and really should have ended the season at 8-5 but for two knuckle-headed plays against Utah on Utah's last scoring drive (well -- Utah's last three offensive drives).

I'm giddy about how good Heaps looked towards the end of the season. I'm almost as giddy about how good Cody Hoffman is. That guy's going to be one of BYU's top 3-4 WRs of all time after he's done.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Did anyone else get football-aroused when he jumped up and grabbed that seagull out of the air on the busted play? (ensuing fumble/recovery notwithstanding..)

I think it's a valid excuse as to why he "made horrible decisions" but I agree that I don't think it should be the reason. He seemed to shy away more and more as the season progressed, whereas I think another quarterback with a similar injury doesn't let it affect his performance as much. This may have to a lot to do with his inability to add and maintain weight more than anything else.

I commented in the game thread how impressive that catch was.

I am just a hater though so I am sure most of the BYU fans just discredited it when they read it and somehow tied it into me bashing on BYU.

I have been saying from spring ball how good Heaps was going to be, when 99% of cougar nation jumped off the bandwagon and some dumbasses were actually calling for Lark or Munns I was still the president of his fan club. Anyone that knows anything about football could see from Day 1 that he was going to be special. Early on he struggled which is to be expected but you could tell that physically he had all the tools. He has a rocket for an arm, he has good touch on his deep ball, he is fairly accurate with his passes. Mentally he was making to many mistakes early but that is to be expected from an 18 year old kid.

In the Utah State game if not for 13 dropped passes he puts up big numbers against them. TCU has the best pass defense in the country and he was clearly overmatched. Those are the only two games where I thought he underperformed significantly but the USU game I do not think was his fault as much as it was his shitty receivers.

I will continue to say that he is going to be a special player and one of the all time greats at BYU. The fact that some people are still pointing to his level of competition as a reason for his success to me is asinine. If you actually watch college football you can clearly see the progression without looking at any of the numbers.
I'll make you a deal, you stop littering the Ute threads with your garbage and I'll stop littering the BYU threads with my garbage.

Gosh, and CJ didn't even attend Utah. That's impressive.

                    • I really liked these quotes by Bronco. One thing I love about Bronco is he takes ownership. Maybe not always when he should, but he does eventually and he seems to learn from his mistakes.

“It was a nice transition for us, with this particular team, with so many questions, and quite frankly some mishandling of the team early on on my part, trying to figure out how to manage quarterbacks,” Mendenhall said, when asked if the program is back on track for more 10-win seasons.

Asked specifically if he mishandled Heaps early in the season, Mendenhall said he did.

“I learned so much,” he said. “I had never been through … having a freshman quarterback, let alone having two brand-new quarterbacks who have identical percentages and grades all the way through spring, summer and fall camp. I was praying that there would be a clear starter emerge.”

“I think the worst thing that happened is we beat Washington in the opener with two quarterbacks. And that made me think it could work, and prolonged me ... into naming [a full-time] quarterback and putting all the reps into a player.

“That’s hard to do when you love both players, who are so equal,” he continued. “But I think it hurt us at the beginning of the year, and it is no one’s fault but my own.”

Thought about it. But I didn't want SU to poo poo all over it. Besides, I think this speaks to Bronco's assessment of Heaps.

Do you think Bronco ever questioned his faith, when after praying for a clear starter to emerge in camp one didn't?
