I think Alisa was at RB comboing w/ Pritchard.

Sucks about Pritchard. It sounds like the same injury that Michigan's best DB suffered on the first day of fall camp last year. This year he's running at 100%, but apparently not everyone comes back from it at all.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Alisa spend most of his time now at FB though.

Now that I'm not typing on my phone I can give a better accounting of what I saw.

Heaps started things off with the bomb. He underthrew it slightly but there was a DPI. The pass was impressive. He made some impressive throws on the drive but the running game proved its worth. To cap the drive Heaps threw a beauty to Jacobsen for the TD.

Nelson had his jersey tucked. Other than that he performed well on the drive. His first pass was about 35 yards down field with the reciever on the sideline. He overthrew it slightly but the receiver did get his hands on it. It was catchable but not so easy you can blame the receiver for missing it. Nelson kept the drive alive with a nice throw down the middle. The drive ended when Nelson executed a very nice play action fake then rolled to his left. He threw a perfect ball about ten yards down the field to a receiver running an out. Perfect throw but the receiver bobbled. The DB picked the ball out of the air for a pick.

Heaps went three and out on his second drive.

Lark came in but did not play particularly well. His last ball was a short pass in the middle that probably should have been a pick six. Doing well in 7 on 7 and and unpadded practice is one thing. Strapping it up and competing live is another. He really needs to pick it up in the padded practice if he's ever to pass Nelson.

Heaps second drive featured some very nice throws. Dude has great vision and can really wing it. I'm stating the obvious here. Unfortunately the drive stalled around the five.

Nelson had a very nice second drive. He made some nice reads and his passes were accurate. It's no secret that his velocity isn't near Heaps but this didn't matter as he was able to get the read and get the throw off long before there was a problem. He threw a very nice medium to deep out to the right side of the field. On a following play he had to keep the ball and he got rocked at the line. His drive stalled around the ten.

Sorenson got to attempt a bunch of kicks. He was nails from within 40 but missed some longer stuff including two 59 yarders. One of the 59 yarders was slightly left but had plenty of distance. The other was straight but came up a few feet short. Our place kicking game will be very exciting this year.

Munns looks to be in better shape than last year. He made two very nice throws and even scrambled a bit. On this day he looked better than Lark.

Today Nelson was a far better QB than Lark. However it's just one scrimmage. I hope James brings in next time so we can have a more interesting battle.

I'm feeling super bad for Iona right now.

I'd agree with most of these observations. Some other quick thoughts:

The Heaps throw to Apo on the first play was badly under thrown. Apo made an adjustment to come back and get it, and would have caught it were it not for the defensive pass interference. A better DB would have been able to pick that. I fully believe that they'll work that out and we will see a few 50+ yard TDs from Heaps to Apo. BYU hasn't had a deep threat like him since Watkins (and IMO Apo will be a much more polished overall receiver). One example of this was on a run that JJ DiLuigi broke to the outside, Apo made a crushing block on a DB that really gave him a clear shot at the corner. It's refreshing seeing a WR that big an talented use his size to block as well.

Nelson looked quite a bit better than Lark in limited action today. Nelson was hurt by drops, one by Wilson that led to an INT (Nelson did nothing wrong) and one that was thrown to an open Hafoka that, while slightly overthrown, was definitely catchable and would have/could have resulted in a long TD pass.

Marcus Matthews is a big target. I think he reminds me a lot of Ed McCaffery. He's not the dynamic player that Hoffman or Apo are, but he finds ways to get open and he has good hands.

I think by the end of the year Hague is starting at safety.

The starting OLine is good. It makes everybody elses jobs easier.

Finally, I liked what I saw from the offense. It definitely seemed more aggressive, but not at the risk of abandoning the running game. There were a few wrinkles I saw at practice that I liked as well, but I'm guessing the coaches don't want it floated out there. Gotta have some surprises for Ole Miss.

Oh, and Sorensen has a leg. He had distance to hit the 59-yard FG but missed then each just barely. It'll be a weapon being in scoring position basically every time we cross midfield.

Hague should have had a pick 6.

Yes, he should have. That was a horrible overthrow on that screen by Lark.

I think I actually tweeted that during the scrimmage.

I'm shocked nelson threw a pick but no td's. He's probably running a negative td to interception ratio this fall. How did he look on special teams?
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

                      A few of my thoughts:

                      1. By far the deepest we have ever been at corner. Everett, Sampson, Eason, Hadley all looked solid.

                      2. KVN is unblockable he is so quick off the edge.

                      3. Not sure if anyone else noticed but they brought Daniel Sorenson on safety blitzes 3 or 4 different times and on at least 2 of those he narrowly missed sacks. He looked pretty good coming off the edge. Also along with Pretty Boy Nelson, he makes the all-uniform team.

                      4. Heaps is good.

                      5. Fullback we will be fine with Zed, Alisa and some Kariya.

                      6. Nelson was decent today but he really lacks arm strength. That throw to Hafoka was not a very good one.

                      7. Ziggy is the new all hype, no substance fan favorite. He came off the edge on a 3rd and long and Matt Reynolds destroyed him in fact Reynolds ran him about 15 yards by the quarterback. He would be the first guy off the bus for intimidation but in the few series I saw him on he was not that impressive.

                      8. BYU went nickel a ton today. It is so nice to see them bring in a DB and not having our middle linebackers running with wide receivers.

                      9. Austin Heder had the Geneva Rock hard hit of the day. Blowing up a running play in the back field and killing David Foote in the process. Knocked his helmet right off and then stood over him for a minute.

                      10. Overall I am not sure BYU has ever had this much talent and depth at so many positions. My concern is all the talent and depth is young so it may take some time to develop.

It was nice to the corners playing press coverage.

Joe Sampson had a few hits that were right up there with heder. For a corner, he loves to smash people.

Thanks CJ. We got every single detail about nelson short of whether his laces were double or single knotted and how his abs looked with his shirt tucked up, so I'm glad someone chimed in on the defensive players.

Was buckner out today? How was hague?

As mentioned Hague dropped a pick that would have gone for six the other way. Other than that I thought Hague did a good job at safety. Uale also had a decent hit on one of the receivers, though I can't remember who right now.
