  • Matthews back in action

Mathews still spends some time with the TEs, but now a lot more time with the WRs. I really like MM; he made another nice catch in skelly.
Marcus Mathews made it back from his shoulder injury today; he will essentially serve as less of a tight end and more of a slot receiver.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

    • Good article on KVN.

Linebackers coach Kelly Poppinga bobbed his head in agreement, seeing plain evidence of progress made: “Kyle is fast and athletic, and is doing a great job, especially as a pass rusher. In practice, our [offensive] tackles are having a hard time with him. Out of our whole defense, he and Jordan have blown me away.

“He’s a kid who has really matured. He’s had a lot to overcome, but he’s seen now as a leader on our team. He’s a good example of a guy who may have thought at one time that he knew everything, but then he got humbled and became teachable. He grew up and he learned. And now, he could become one of the best linebackers ever here. It’s all up to him. If he keeps working, he can be great.”

Here, in his own words, is what Van Noy has learned:

“You can come back from making mistakes. You can be a better person. No matter how low you sink, you can rise up. If I did it, anyone can.”

I can understand the decision, and I like him having interaction with the QB and the rest of the offense. He really is a great motivator. On the other hand, I imagine it's got to take a lot of trust in the man upstairs (meaning Lamb obviously) to feel good about running the offense from the field.

Uh, no. Lamb is no longer around. Reynolds maybe?

(sorry, the play of the Lamb "upstairs" doesn't really work here)

                  Oops. Meant Reynolds.

I've thought since last year that Matthews is more of a possession receiver than a TE. He has a similar body type of Ed McCaffrey, former Giants/49ers/Broncos WR.

I like Matthews as a solid backup to Hoffman/Apo a lot, and in some instances could see Apo lining up in the slot with Hoffman and Matthews on the outside. Those are three big targets for Heaps to throw the ball to.

what happened to that blonde girl?

And why is Ross Apo reporting "soreness" now?

Probably let go due to inappropriate touching and off-topic questioning ("how many shoes do you have? What's your favorite store in the mall?").

Edit: the blondie might be gone, but the inappropriate smiling is still there with this new guy.

I gotta give him credit. He interviewed Kav yesterday and didn't once ask him the difference between USC and BYU.
