No kidding. I listened to his break down of the BYU-Gonzaga game and he was going on and on about how Jimmer didn't take a shot until 4 minutes in the game and how he needed to be more involved with the offense if BYU is going to win versus Florida. Never mind that Jimmer had the ball in his hands the whole time and was setting up the offense for everyone else.

    • KVN almost made me cry in the TBS article today.

      I said "almost," bitches.

      http://byu.scout.com/2/1058065.html

      I'll try to excerpt judiciously:

"The last question I got was from a lady, and I'll never forget this – she was just balling her eyes out. She asked, 'What made you want to change your life?'.... I said, ‘The Church and seeing my mom's face....."

"I’m just trying to make the best of all my talents and I'm finally seeing that. I have a talent of helping people by showing them of my struggles in the past and how I turned my life around. I'm willing to share that with people and give the message that one mistake is not going to make you. You can fix that and be a better person."

"I love helping out the community, and I have sixth graders every Friday and it's fun," Van Noy said. "I go to the sixth grade elementary school up in Orem. I don't have school on Friday, so I go up there and hang out with them all day, and I play kickball and help them with their schoolwork all day. It's a lot of fun and I love it."

Also, he caught Ross Apo from behind when Apo thought he was in the clear in practice yesterday. This guy is fast enough to cover/catch elite WRs.
      Ute-ī sunt fīmī differtī

It can't all be wedding cake.

That was awesome to read. And dang he got me so excited about Jake, Apo and Hoffman.

KVN has the goods and the story to be a BYU legend -- I hope he puts it all together.

I also get the impression, both from this and other things I've read, that the team's early season struggles could be a major blessing in disguise. In some ways I think guys like Jake, KVN, and others that are going to carry this team needed that experience of not having things go their way. Now it's time for things to go their way!
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

So you're saying Apo is slow? That's too bad.

          • Where the hell are the practice reports? It's 8:30 in Utah and I haven't seen one tweet yet or anything.

              The offense might be ok.

ffense focused on some plays we haven't seen too much of and struggled a bit as a result...Austin Holt had a lot of good work
Heaps hit HOffman up the sideline for an 80-yard TD that was whistled dead with a non-contact sack just a split second before Heaps threw
Hoffman beat double-coverage on the play and Heaps hit him right in stride...very pretty play
Juice looks quicker this year and confirmed to me that he's lost a bit of weight...Coach DuPaix had some glowing remarks about Phillips
Apo is completely torching guys in one-on-one drills...he is looking much more comfortable this spring...not guessing at his routes now

              • A position battle I never expected:

"New Offensive Coordinator Brandon Doman is a renewing a focus on utilizing the slot receiver position in his new offense. McKay Jacobson and J.D. Falslev are in a neck-and-neck battle for the starting spot at the position.

Jacobson had the aforementioned 60 yard TD catch while Falslev hooked up with Riley Nelson on the offense's fifth possession across the middle of the field on two catches totaling 50 yards. They will surely continue to battle throughout the rest of spring and into fall camp. "

I think this bodes well. I like the idea of someone pushing MJ going into his senior year. I saw some flashes from Falslev last year that make me not mind this one bit.

                • Some other great tidbits in here. Don't know who Jake Hatch is but he writes well.

                  http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=498&sid=14827926

"The running game featured a balanced load between the four backs vying for playing time. Joshua "Juice" Quezada and Drew Phillips are showing a quick burst through the hole.

Juice had an impressive 16 yard run that almost surely would have gone for extra yardage had action been live. He has great vision and can seemingly exploit the smallest crack in the defense to his advantage."

                  • How different is Doman's offense from Anae's? Do we know the answer to that yet? Do we have the same formations/calls/plays, but just run different ones more often, or has he totally revamped things?

The reason I ask is you often see an offense take a half year to a year to get used to a new offense with a new OC. My assumption has been that we won't have this problem, since we will be running the same offense with some tweaks, but that is just me assuming.

You know as I read this I thought how sad it is that Mendenhall wasn't the HC when Marcus Whalen came to play at BYU. Marcus' personal life really destroyed what I thought could have been a really bright future as a college RB at BYU and a potential pro career. I just wonder if Marcus could have survived BYU better had he been in the more structured environment that Mendenhall runs. Whalen struck me more as a follower and I think he would have responded better to Mendenhall's program leadership.

Saying that I hope KVN continues on the path he is on. I worry sometimes about how the culture puts these kids on pedestals they might not be ready to climb. I think Kyle is genuine and I firmly believe him when he says how much he wants to be the person the article is portraying him to be, but we all fall down and sometimes when we artificially build people up, in order to reinforce what we want to hear/believe, that fall can be a bit more drastic to the kid involved and the culture can turn on him. I like what I have seen wrt Brandon Davies, post the admin initiated pecker stomping brouhaha that got the kid prime time on Mike and Mike, so I am hopeful if KVN slips he won't be thrown to the wolves. Saying that, stories of kids overcoming tough circumstances and life's challenges are always inspiring. I really hope KVN becomes all that he wants to be as a person and even moreso I hope he becomes everything I WANT HIM TO BE AS AN OLB!

I like it when we are on the same wave length. If I hadn't posted that on friends only, I would have gotten several blasts about having faith in a kid. I am thinking of you Live Coug.

The same people (not thinking of you Live Coug) that get so hyped and comment on God being at BYU and changing lives there will be the first to condemn the kid if he slips up.

I along with you am pulling for KVN to stay on top of his game both on and off the field.

Really, c'mon really. I have had hurt feelings for quite a while because you never asked me. You aren't pulling my leg are you, really?

I don't think PAC has ever asked either. I had to be strong to get over both of you not asking. I just knew you had each other on your lists.
