This is right. ND doesn't even this top 14 rule--they have to finish top 8. That's the best we can hope for.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

That is the same as Army/Navy. Top 14 w/9 wins to be eligible, top 2 to be automatic.

I think BYU might be primed to make a run at 10-3 next year, especially if Texas and/or Oregon State turn out to be 2008 UCLA-esque.

No. It would be correct that they'd have to be top 2 to have a guaranteed berth, and ND top 8. But everybody is eligible for an at-large bid who has 9 wins and is in the top 14.

            At-large Eligibility
If there are fewer than 10 automatic qualifiers, then the bowls will select at-large participants to fill the remaining berths. An at-large team is any Football Bowl Subdivision team that is bowl-eligible and meets the following requirements:

            A. Has won at least nine regular-season games, and
            B. Is among the top 14 teams in the final BCS Standings.

              Tweet from Wrubell:

Now remind yourself that some of BYU's best offensive and special teams players from Saturday are freshmen: Heaps, Juice, Hoffman, Falslev.
Very excited about the future of this group.

Wrubell might be a bit over the top with his latest round of tweets, but it's fun to drink the flavor aide, at least until next Saturday.

If SU had crawled out from under his barstool yet, he would remind you that bronco is a two bit hack, in an extraordinarily fortunate position allowing him to ride the recruiting success of his predecessor. Crowton recruited these guys years ago.

The talent offensively is going to be there for a good year next year, with a lot of that potential weighing on Heaps' shoulders. A week ago people were questioning whether or not Munns or Lark would give us a better shot at winning and now we're talking BCS next year? I think that's quite the step to take. I think Heaps will be more consistent and the players around him will be more developed... but I'm not ready to plan a trip in January of 2012 for a BCS game. I'm a little worried about the O-Line depth after 2011, though next year should be solid (assuming Reynolds doesn't leave a year early).

Defensively it'll be interesting to see who steps up as underclassmen in the secondary. That is the biggest hole in the defense (surprise!), as the front 3 should be solid again the next few seasons and our linebacker depth really looks awesome as well.

I think the talent is setting up nicely. But any talk of a BCS game next year is ridiculously premature. This team still has work to do to become bowl eligible this year... not exactly the makings of a team poised for a BCS run.

Not many people were thinking that, and I'm guessing those people aren't the ones who are now sold on Heaps or are daring to dream for a really good year in 2011.

Just using one extreme to show how silly the other really is. Reality is absolutely in the middle.

I am with Indy. I think BCS level talk is crazy in most years and moreso with a club that is 4-5. But I have long felt and articulated that I strongly felt BYU in 2011 was a really good candidate for the most improved of any college team from this year to next. I think BYU will be a good team but I don't see them having a BCS caliber of team until at least 2012, if everything works out well and key players stay healthy. I think we can start this bandwagon if we go into the second week of November next year with only 2 or 3 losses.

Well, to be fair, the thread opened with Ox's dreams. His actual prediction--while admitting that its far too early for predictions-- was between 1 and 4 losses. Pretty reasonable. Let a guy dream!

I can't get myself excited about calling a player "Juice", is there some history behind this? It seems like this is a 2-3 week old nickname. Perhaps I missed something exciting that garnered him this moniker, I would love to be filled in.

It's from before he came to BYU.
