Thanks. In my book Utah won this game 17-6. Double digit win, baby.Originally posted by Jarid in Cedar View PostI don't even want to count how many points Utah's Offense or Special teams gave up that the defense had little to do with.
...BYU: 10 points. FG right before half was set up by a short field punt where BYU got on 16 yards on the possession. TD was set up a the 25 by Cain's second INT.

All joking aside. If BYU loses by 1 point to Utah at RES in game where I think we can call agree that BYU dominated everything but the scoreboard (which in fairness is all that matters).Originally posted by Hot Lunch View PostDid I say I don't understand? I think I said something to the effect that I didn't agree with it. Thanks for your thought though.
10 months from now they play at LES. BYU returns Heaps, potentially their whole offensive line, their top 3 running backs, every single receiver that is worth a damn, so pretty much the whole offense.
They return plenty of depth along the D-line. The linebacking corps will be much better they lose Hunter but Ogletree is better anyways and they get Pendleton back. The only question mark is the secondary which seems to have enough warm bodies to make due.
Utah on the other hand loses their top three backs if you count Shak, loses Brooks and Smithson, loses two first team all conference lineman in Taylor and Schlauderaff. Their QB is coming off a major injury and who knows if he will be ready.
Defensively they may lose Burton, but for sure lose Chapman, Taplin-Ross, and Christian Cox. So much like BYU the secondary will need to be rebuilt but the front 7 should remain intact.
With all that being said Utah loses a ton of offense while BYU returns everyone. The defenses are pretty much a wash granted utah has been better at reloading in the defensive backfield than BYU has at least historically. So why would a 1 point win at home not make you think that BYu should at the minimum be a favorite going in to LES come September?*Banned*

If we go by this then BYU only lost to TCU 7-3. Sweet moral victory!!!!!Originally posted by Jarid in Cedar View PostI don't even want to count how many points Utah's Offense or Special teams gave up that the defense had little to do with.
Yeah I do cause I hate myself.
Pitt: 10 points. on short fields, 1 following Shaky's fumble, 1 following the blocked punt.
UNLV: 7 points. Blocked punt returned for TD
UNM: 7 points. Fumble by Matthews returned for a TD.
SJSU: 3 points. Long KR that the defense gave up -2 yards on the drive
ISU: 14 points. 2 short fields following a Wide fumble and a Wynn pick inside the 20.
Wyoming: 6 points. This one is iffy because they had to drive 38 yards for the score following Wynn's 3rd INT
CSU: 0
AFA: 0
TCU: repressed memories, but I do not recall a short field score(and it wouldn't have mattered if I did)
ND: 14 points. Punt block for TD and 20 yd TD following another Smithson fumble
SDSU: 0 here as well. Their offense was pretty awesome
BYU: 10 points. FG right before half was set up by a short field punt where BYU got on 16 yards on the possession. TD was set up a the 25 by Cain's second INT.
So that is a total of 71 points out of 238 or 29.8%*Banned*

We should have some gauge as to how each team filled their voids by the time the game is played. I agree that BYU fans should feel confident heading into the game, but chalk it up as a win right now(not saying that all have done that) is just laughable.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostAll joking aside. Because BYU has less talent than Utah.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostAll joking aside. If BYU loses by 1 point to Utah at RES in game where I think we can call agree that BYU dominated everything but the scoreboard (which in fairness is all that matters).

I am not chalking it up as a win right now but I am 95% sure BYU wins this game and I do not see much changing come September.Originally posted by Jarid in Cedar View PostWe should have some gauge as to how each team filled their voids by the time the game is played. BYU should have beat Utah this year and with everyone back and continuing to progress I do not see utah replacing all the guys they are losing with better players. If somehow they pull that off then Kyle is the best coach in the country. If they replace them with guys of equal ability BYU still wins at LES.
If utah had a better FS than Taplin-Ross would he have not played this year? If they had a better QB than Wynn why didn't he play? We saw that Cain was not the answer?*Banned*

Ooh, Ooh!!! How about this one: because Utah beat SDSU by more ON THE ROAD, than BYU did at home. Case closed.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostAll joking aside. The flow of the game is altered by each play, so you can never assume that the rest of the game would play out as expected IF this play didn't happen or that call didn't go against us.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostIf we go by this then BYU only lost to TCU 7-3. Sweet moral victory!!!!!
I would wonder how many of Utah's scores came on short fields due to big returns, bad punts, etc, but I played defense, I think like defensive coach, so I focus on the defense
