It was sent to MWC, WAC and Big 12 (Big12 officials did the game). They apparently saw the interpretation of the rule as Solon did.Originally posted by Surfah View PostYou're seriously going to use MWC officials as your defense?"Be a philosopher. Well then Bender is vindicated. He's not an asshole anymore and I will go apologize on all of his social networking sites for the pain I caused him.Originally posted by Mormon Red Death View PostIt was sent to MWC, WAC and Big 12 (Big12 officials did the game). I still think the officials got it wrong."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

All this really proves that it was a call that was not as clear as many here were saying.Originally posted by Surfah View PostWell then Bender is vindicated. He's not an asshole anymore and I will go apologize on all of his social networking sites for the pain I caused him.
I still think the officials got it wrong.
Coaches and fans see it one way and some refs from multiple conferences see it differently. I think there has been enough shots telling people how stupid they are. Clearly intelligent and knowledgeable people can differ on their interpretation of that play.
I always thought it was a close call. Bottom line it sucks that Fuga is out.Dyslexics are teople poo...

I agree it was cheap and violated the unwritten rules of the game (like throwing at a batter's head in baseball), but the outcry for ejection and suspension just makes the BYU fanbase look horrible.Originally posted by mpfunk View PostIt really doesn't matter if it was legal or not, it was a cheap shot. Which is the approach that needs to be stated. The "you are an effing moron if you agree(disagree) with the officials" is pretty ridiculous.(I am not saying that you said this, but it is in this thread in abundance).Originally posted by Surfah View PostI agree. And I do.
But I still don't think the officials interpreted the rules here correctly.
The real reason everyone is fired up is the end result of the play. If Fuga hops up and runs back the the huddle, there may have been only one or 2 comments about the hit(if that many)."The first thing I learned upon becoming a head coach after fifteen years as an assistant was the enormous difference between making a suggestion and making a decision."

Except that they interpret the rules wrong all the time. It's the weatherman's job to forecast the weather too.Originally posted by RedSox View PostBut it's their job to interpret the rules, and therefore, they are presumably the authority on rule interpretation, so I'm not sure that the "the officials misinterpreted the rules" approach carries much water either."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

am I wrong in assuming that what is being argued over is second hand knowledge about the MWC officials committee's evaluations stating that there was no foul on the play?
Has the committee made an official statement about the play includes an analysis that cites specific rules as to why it wasn't? If they haven't then we're relying on the statement that Bronco made, which includes no official analysis and cites no rules.
If this is the case then this argument is pointless.
Personally, having seen the rulebook and watched the play, I don't know how you can argue away the fact that the block was below the waist and the blocking box was non existent because the ball carrier had moved beyond it. If an official statement addresses those two issues effectively then there can be no claim that it was illegal.Dio perdona tante cose per un’opera di misericordia
