Thanks. I have been successfully avoiding swearing today - more than a few words have died on my lips tonight. I accept your accurate change.

Kariya did a wonderful job for us against Oklahoma last year, but I don't think he should be allowed to touch the ball again. He starts stumbing as soon as he gets the ball.

The play calling wasn't bad outside a couple of questionable "blue" zone calls. The 4th down call is criminal and the 3rd down call and then the fg doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but the rest of the game was fine. The were working with a true freshman making is first start and without the benefit of a tight end to take a lot of heat off of Heaps. The last 5 years BYU has had the luxury of throwing to a very talented TE when the other receivers are locked up. That's not the case right now and it is making Heaps look worse than he should while it made Hall and Beck probably look a little better. Heaps needs to get away from throwing fades and we need to develop another weapon outside of JJ in the passing game. Hopefully that is Hoffman. He has the talent and the size. Hopefully they'll develop some chemistry. Don't give up on BYU. Realize it's going to be a rebuilding year and watch players grow.
I'm mad over those calls, mostly. We squandered opportunities through no fault of Heaps.

I blame Anae for the bad calls (if the coaching works like I've been told - go/no go is Bronco, actual play call is Anae). I blame Bronco for not choosing a starter and going with it. Heaps is finally building rhythm in the offense - four games into the season.

That's the part I blame Bronco for--the chaos that's still going on. Fortunately, his hand on the QB situation was forced by an injury, but why the hell have we still not picked a TE?

That said, Bronco seems to learn from mistakes, and I'm guessing he doesn't ever make this one again.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Rich was incredible again. Which is kind of bad news. I thought Logan looked good, especially considering he was hurt. Again, not good news. I thought the MLB'ers looked terrible. BYU is very weak in the middle right now. Especially with Fuga out. Braden Brown is going to be very good his senior year and might even play in the NFL someday, but right now he is a major project. I actually liked Heaps in this game. I can see him improving and there weren't the drops today like we've seen. Not a great offensive game by the team, but you can see some improvement. Need a tight end to step up for the offense to take the next step.

Let's hope not. Lavell made the same mistake with Wilson/McMahon and swore he'd never repeat it.

I'm not sure why you would say this? Is it because he hasn't played much? He's clearly out played Kariya everytime he touches the ball. He's a freshman and Bronco doesn't let freshman start unless he has to because of injury. Besides I think DiLuigi has played well enough to hold his starting spot. It's a mystery to me why Quezada is not playing in front of Kariya.

Agreed. Q made a great TD catch against Washington. He is doing everything that could have been expected from a freshman, I think.

I think Hoffman is going to be very good. I think the offense has been set back a couple of weeks by Bronco dicking around with the qb situation. I'm excited to see the offense start clicking over the next few weeks. Hopefully Chambers comes back with a new attitude and things open up for Jacobsen.

We're talking about Kariya getting to the edge here. They could be caught completely off guard and still have the time to catch him before he got around the end.

I thought Q looked pretty good with the touches he got. I don't see a reason in the world for Kariya to get any carries over him.

I even saw him make a nice pass block.

#62 should be suspended at least one game, by the WAC, by the coaches, by whomever.

Rich is a guy in the mold of Weddle or Scalley. Maybe you can work him in on offense. :-)

Fall camp would have been a great time to work on that problem.

I'm still hoping most of the accuracy issues are just due to Heaps being a big bundle of nerves/adrenalin and that it will settle down with time.

Has Kariya made it to the edge yet?

We would have won this game with Riley Nelson.
