That was one of the worst 4th down play calls I can remember.

Hoffman just had our best receiving day of the year by a long shot.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I'm not sure whether or not to be livid at the defense. We did hold Nevada to less than usual.

I am at the verge of giving up on BYU entirely for this year, because of shoddy coaching.
I'm not nearly as down on the staff as a lot of people. The defense played decently. Couldn't get off the field, but they kept BYU within striking distance. The play calling wasn't bad outside a couple of questionable "blue" zone calls. The 4th down call is criminal and the 3rd down call and then the fg doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but the rest of the game was fine. The were working with a true freshman making is first start and without the benefit of a tight end to take a lot of heat off of Heaps. The last 5 years BYU has had the luxury of throwing to a very talented TE when the other receivers are locked up. That's not the case right now and it is making Heaps look worse than he should while it made Hall and Beck probably look a little better. Heaps needs to get away from throwing fades and we need to develop another weapon outside of JJ in the passing game. Hopefully that is Hoffman. He has the talent and the size. Hopefully they'll develop some chemistry. Don't give up on BYU. Realize it's going to be a rebuilding year and watch players grow.

Difference: smith is in the NFL and is a mature man. Heaps is just starting and is a 19 year old kid. He'll get it figured out.

Did Nevada have a run play up the middle that went for less than 6 yards?

Bronco explains the 4th down call: he thought they could catch them off guard.

Yup, I'm finally ready to blame Bronco. We look like we just started 2-a-days. I have some hope for the rest of the season--I even think we could be good by then--but we should have figured this stuff out 3 weeks ago. We should have picked a quarterback and gone with him.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Is MJ hurt? The way he avoids contact makes me think he's truly hurting. Ashworth has never been anything but a journeyman type guy. He's Toby Christensen type of player. BYU really needs to find a TE and get Hoffman going. If Hoffman and someone over the middle can develop some chemistry with Heaps, MJ will take off is my guess. If he's healthy, and right now he's playing like he's hurt.

Assuming losses to Utah and TCU the good news is that the MWC teams that appear decent SDSU and WYO are both in Provo. Our scout team would beat CSU and New Mexico with me coaching them.

Why does Heaps always throw it way long and out of bounds on the deep routes?

Seems like we should have a couple of back-shoulder throws in the playbook to throw on the sidelines to take advantage of our slow receivers. Just a random thought.

Heaps left at least 11 points out there by missing easy open throws that he's certainly capable of making. Nevada's a good team and admittedly outplayed us by a lot more than the final score by shooting themselves in the foot a few times, but Heaps completes those throws and we easily could have won this.

Who played well today? I get too caught up in the game that I dontnotice individual players. I know jj and Hoffman were solid but who on D? Id like to see juice out there more.
