Where do you think the competitive advantage lies? This is an honest question. I would think it would fall more in the not allowing than the players physically not doing a walk through. It gives OSU something else to focus on that has nothing to do with the game.Originally posted by Portland Ute View PostAh. I see that it's perfectly reasonable to deny the visiting team a walk through.
Nothing wrong with that.
I've been re-calibrated.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

This is bullshit. At ground level the players will be able to tell the difference. Besides what is Boise's competitive advantage then when they play away from home?Originally posted by Portland Ute View PostFor once I hope you are right.
I don't think it's about being intimidated. I think it's about getting your eyes and brain accustomed to something that is entirely abstract. How often do you play on any surface that is not green? Never. Also, throw in the camouflaged blue unis on the blue turf and I think it's completely reasonable to try to get the eye accustomed to picking up the blue against blue.
I can't believe they won't let them do a walk through.
Also, I can't find anything that says Oregon State painted their field because Boise isn't allowing them to do a walk through. In fact I found an article stating that all teams get a couple hours on the smurf turf. What I did find was that this was in the works for the better part of a month and that an anonymous donor paid for it all. Also, only the defense and special teams will be practicing on it."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

Alabama's 2010 football field...

Compared to Boise States.

Obviously Oregon State thinks that the blue turf gives BSU an unfair advantage hence the newly blue practice field.
I've never played football on blue turf, so I really don't know how big of a difference it really makes, but my guess is that it does give Boise State an unfair advantage. How could it not be a distraction to a team that plays every other game EVER on green turf.
This would be a fan's perspective of Boise State players on the blue turf. Camouflaged or not? From this view, it looks like it to me.
Field level view showing Boise State playing Oregon last year. Looks clear to me. But then again, I've never played in a D-1 game on blue turf against the Broncos.

The link below has a video showing Oregon State's practice field being painted blue.

Wow, PU, that sucks that you harbor this kind of BSU resentment. Even I don't hate them as much and I was at the game in Provo. Fortunately I was also in the MUSS for the state's other embarrassment and let me tell you, they are not a bullshit program. They have a small but passionate fanbase. They travel extremely well and they have carved a nitch by riding ESPN all the way to the bank. Sure they only have7just over a decade of football history but if lowering academic standards, painting their turf blue, and pulling stunts like this is bullshit than color me impressed."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

They do have a JUCO national championship and a 1-AA championship I believe.Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostWow, PU, that sucks that you harbor this kind of BSU resentment. I understand that. I was referring to relevant history. Yes, that is being dismissive but that's another argument entirely.Originally posted by Surfah View PostThey do have a JUCO national championship and a 1-AA championship I believe."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

BTW, Boise has supposedly replaced their blue field turf with one that doesn't glisten or reflect light like the old field did as you see in that last picture. I read that it's not an issue in person, but the cameras pick it up.Originally posted by Coastal Ute View PostAlabama's 2010 football field...

That's what I heard as well. I've also heard that the field never had a glare- it was just the cameras picking it up. Maybe I'm wrong.Originally posted by Surfah View PostBTW, Boise has supposedly replaced their blue field turf with one that doesn't glisten or reflect light like the old field did as you see in that last picture. Also, FWIW, I think being in the MWC will be a humbling experience for BSU (it would be more so if they had to play BYU and Utah every year...well, maybe not Utah
).
I can't stand Boise State for a couple of reasons- main one being that their fans are grade-a douches. I also think they need to have a little humble pie force fed to them. I think that will happen in the near future. Hopefully it will happen against OSU so we don't have to hear about Boise in the title game the whole year."75-10 the last two games? Is my math right? I think that Boise State will beat up on OSU. I also think they'll do really well in the MWC. Especially next year. Moore will be a senior right? TCU will be breaking in a new QB. They will roll everyone in the MWC next year.Originally posted by Coastal Ute View PostAlso, FWIW, I think being in the MWC will be a humbling experience for BSU (it would be more so if they had to play BYU and Utah every year...well, maybe not Utah

I thought about that when I was typing. It definitely is true. Look at BYU since...well, since 1972 and Utah since 2003. Have you ever met a BSU homer though? C'mon.Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostThis is true of any and all fanbases who taste success.

Maybe, maybe not. I have faith in TCU though. Didn't they have the best recruiting class in the MWC this last year? I'm sure they'll fill for Dalton just fine. Also, I think Boise is losing a significant part of it's team after this year. I think. The MWC WILL be tougher than the WAC. I would be shocked if it wasn't. Boise will not go undefeated every year.Originally posted by Surfah View PostI think that Boise State will beat up on OSU. I also think they'll do really well in the MWC. Especially next year.
