  • Personally I don't think Bronco walks on water but I think his 50'wins in 5 years does give hime the benefit of the doubt, that he knows what he is doing. I do sometimes wonder if he takes pleasure in trolling the fans and using Wrubell and Harmon as puppets.

The difference is that the frogs are a better team than we have been. Air Force was good and I bet they surprise people this year but we should/could have won that game.

I don't give a shit what a bunch of anonymous fans say on an internet message board. If you think a coach should throw in the towel when his team is down by one touchdown in the third quarter to a team they have beaten six years in a row, then you are smoking something.
Hey, I already said it was probably just wishful thinking!

I'm just trying to think through this thing. Doman and Anae have wanted Heaps as the starter, Bronco overrules them and Anae gets seriously ticked. So what's his motivation to suddenly play Nelson an entire half without working Jake in for reps? I don't know. I think my could make some sense, but you're right, it's tough to imagine a CFB coach giving up on a game like that just to prove a point. I've seen coaches do it in other sports -- Pops is a master at pulling stuff like this to prove a point to his teams -- but that's in an 82 game season and you don't have the same leeway in a CFB season.

The other option is that Bronco is just flat out lying, and it wasn't exclusively Anae's decision to go with Riley. I think this is a possibility as well.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I don't think this is that crazy of an idea. So Anae goes, "Here Bronco...I'll give your boy a solid half and see what he can do." He now has ammo to argue for Heaps because he's given the veteran a solid chance. Nelson can't really complain either because he had a solid half to prove that he was the guy. He wasn't.

Now if Nelson starts the next game, that theory goes out the window.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Oh, I don't know that it completely goes out the window. Bronco's a pretty stubborn dude. Also, road game against FSU is probably not the best place to get Jake his first start.

                    • the play calling in the second half did not make any sense either. i'm not sure why you put riley nelson in a three step drop situation any of the time.

This is part of my Anae conspiracy theory. It seems like Riley was put in an inordinate number of passing situations in the 2nd half when everyone knows that's not his strength.

                          • What worries me is that Bronco is stubborn and there is no easy way for him to save face. He's not going to say it was wrong playing both QB's and he's not going to say it was wrong to bench Heaps. If he starts Heaps, it will be interpreted that he was wrong. And if he starts Nelson he will be crucified. But as he likes to say, he doesn't care what anyone else thinks. I just hope he doesn't go out of his way to prove it.

Do you remember what defensive scheme Bronco built his entire freaking career around? Yeah, I barely do either. If by stubborn, you mean "doesn't follow the whims of internet message boards", then yeah, I guess he's stubborn. If there's one thing Bronco has shown, it's that he wants to win and will adapt the system (on both sides of the ball) to do it. Sure, he's got some loyalty to veteran players, but that loyalty has given us one of the most consistently good teams in the country. We have a little hiccup in week 2 (!) where we have a brand new linebacking corps and no quarterback, and suddenly he's a stubborn "pussy" who only cares about saving face, is lucky to have inherited Crowton's recruits, and doesn't know how to evaluate talent. Even better is when people get on him about having boring press conferences.

I wonder if there's another coach in the country with four consecutive 10+ win seasons that takes this much crap from his fanbase.
